Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I bumped into a guy from an organisation called metropolitan putting in locks for a neighbour. He said he was fitting locks for free on the ladder as part of an initiative with the police and council after the recent spate of burglaries. I have asked him to come round tomorrow to do our place but wanted to check that he was legitimate. Has anyone else had their locks done or could confirm that this is not just too good to be true?

If you find this out to be genuine then let me know, it would be worth having the locks checked...

Why not ask the police ?

We got a flyer about this through our door the other week, and I was also a bit doubtful - it seemed too good to be true, and the fact that the company is called "Metropolitan" makes it just a bit too close to the "Metropolitan Police" for my liking. We didn't need any of the locks/spyholes/whatever else they were offering, so I just threw the flyer out. But this is just my 2 cents; I also think it's worth checking with the police in case it is legit.

I believe this is genuine, see this post here about the service. Any doubts though and I'm sure Harringay SNT will confirm if it is. Contact details here

Wow, that was a while back Liz. The link to the SNT was useful, a good place to start-just droped them a line. I will let you know what they say.

John: Absolutley no point just calling the police unless you know who you want to ask to speak to, finding the right person can be like a needle in a haystack...

Got this back form Andy Ling of the SNT- it is legit!

Yes this is legit, As part of an anti burglary initiative we were offering locks to be fitted in Hewitt Road on 6th November in partnership with met care and repair. Basically Haringey council fit the locks for free to premises that need them, along with various other items - Spy holes, london bars etc.  We maybe doing other roads on the ladder in the future but have no specific dates yet.

We did have quite a lot of interest on the day but I think when people see the leaflets we delivered the week previously they think it is a scam, that's why on the day of fitting and when we drop the leaflets through peoples doors we try to speak to as many home owners as possible so they know it legit.

Hope that helps. Harringay SNT

Justin - thanks so much for checking as my young son was not really up for me to spend time chatting to SNT so you've saved me a job. Took a bit of a risk this morning as I let the guy come and case the joint and was therefore much relieved to read that he is in fact legit.

We got some free help with back door and window locks. I wouldn't recommend the max security peep hole on offer tho as it looks like something from a nuclear submarine and doesnt really go with the farrow and ball plans Ive got for our front door one day when I have a few spare hours.

Thanks Liz. Will get in touch to find out.
