Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/114135/response/281202/attach...

Your thoughts on this FOI response which states 87 Senior Managers recieved bonuses (or performance related pay) in a borough that has food banks for some in its population who cant afford food, that has had riots and has the highest unemployment in London.

Bonus well deserved?

Sorry, John. But l think it stinks. And no money was saved by the cull; the riots that kicked off in Tottenham cost the public purse a few hundred million. Maybe the bonuses should be paid back now.

Please explain the connection between the council and the riots.. or 'troubles' ?

Is Westminster council also responsible for the antics that go on in the Palace of Westminster too?

You point sounds like scapegoating to me..

lol - I doubt it

An interesting read, Andreas. Including some of the comments below your own piece. I'd not seen it before.

Though of course, to have a fruitful debate we need a culture where people are prepared to listen to, reflect on, and even learn from different views, presented thoughtfully - and hopefully, based on evidence. (Not something I've noticed recently with the powers-that-be in Haringey.)

(Tottenham Hale ward councillor)

I agree with you that the cuts to children's and young person's services should be acknowledged as one of the causes of the riots last year but as I said earlier, if you gave the average Haringey voter the choice, they would cut children's and young person's services too.

It stinks of salary envy to me more than anything else.

Feel free to come and visit us at Exposure any time, to see what we manage to achieve on our salaries, John (no bonuses, though).

Something that is annoying me a lot lately is that I was trying to hire a young person, not even necessarily a graduate, who was smart, hard working and could program a computer. Not just copy-and-paste a bit of Javascript either. I thought with more than a million young people unemployed it would be a buyer's market. My offer of a £30K salary was either sniffed at or the people I interviewed had a lot of stuff on their CV that they said they could do but not without the assistance of Mr Google and a lot more time than the task should have taken.

There is so much excellent information on the internets for teaching yourself to program and the salaries offered by employers make it something poorer young people in Tottenham should be thinking about. But you know what? I think they were all just too cool to do it. What is the point in teaching them "media" when the market is so saturated that it's only middle class kids who can afford to work for free who get to do it?

Sorry, we've taken this off topic now.

Salary envy? What is that?

I think it's when you're peeved about suddenly losing all your income because you provided a valuable service, did a good job and won awards... oh, and then someone else gets a bonus for it.

I'll tell you about it sometime. ;-)

LOOOOOOOOOL My career boosted after leaving Haringey, so such personal assumptions are not attributed to me!!

John, if you're happy with that, we live in a democracy & I respect your threshold of contempt may differ to mine.

I'll leave my comments there as Ive said my opinion & I hope you enjoy the rest of the day! :) x
