Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Melvyn Bragg's 'Reel History' mobile cinema coming to Harringay

The vintage mobile cinema used by Melvyn Bragg in his recent  Reel History BBC TV series is coming to Harringay this winter for the Harringay Winter Festival.

The Vintage Mobile Cinema is a 22 seat movie theatre (complete with Dolby 7:1 surround sound for the full cinema experience). It was one of seven units custom built for the British government in the late 1960s, used at the time to promote British industry.

The cinema will be coming to town as just one of the attractions at next month's Harringay winter festival, by Rob Chau, the Harringay traders and other community groups. (Melvyn Bragg not included).

Alongside the mobile cinema on 10th & 11th December, Mattison Road will be playing host to an ice rink, Santa's grotto,  family photo booth ans street stalls.

Brilliant. We are looking forward to the festival!

Just a slight detail but thought I will bring it up that the Winter Festival is being organised and brought to Harringay by the Festival Committee Sub Group of the Green Lanes Stategy Group, who also delivered the Green Lanes Food Festival in September.
The Green Lanes Strategy Group is made up of reps from the Traders Assoc - & the 3 Residents Associations - being the GRA - LCSP and WPRA. HOL has representives who attend the GLSG meetings also.

Its all very exciteing stuff - Rob from the Traders Assoc is doing a brilliant job being the main driving force in this - well done Rob
Andy - GRA

Why is this not being done in the gardens where it is (according to you) much easier and cheaper to close the roads?

Erm...I think they need a large playground like area for the ice rink?

John
We looked at many many scenarios and have spent a lot of time exploring different sites over Oct and November
We were originally looking at Essex Gardens Cross street ( between Stanhope and Rutland) for the Ice Rink etc - but for the two days would be difficult to secure over night with doorways onto it?
We looked at Hawes and Curtis Car Park
We looked at Ducketts Common
We looked at Chesterfield Gardens & Mattison Rd - But access to Disney's became an issue
As I’m sure you can appreciate a lot of time an effort goes into this type of thing. but as always a compromise with Mattison and the School Playground it is and I think can work well. Everyone is very grateful to the Mattison residents.

I dont understand your comment about much easier and cheaper to close roads in the Gardens - unless you mean I mentioned that short roads are easier?

The projection onto the Salisbury Pub this Friday has been another great game as well trying to find a site to locate it.
As you can appreciate when you do new projects there are many learning curves and we have tried our best.

The event appears to be coming together really well though - fingers crossed for good weather? eh

Andy

"The projection onto the Salisbury" ? Have I missed something?

I'm really looking forward to the mobile cinema!

This is a projection onto the Salisbury (as I doubt a real tree would last long on GL?)
