Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Following a discussion on this site about the use of Taxicards, I noticed today that Transport for All are reporting via Twitter that the ability to 'double swipe' has been restored by Haringey Council

What does this mean? What is double swiping?

If you click this link, Madeleine explains it better than I could.

Thanks

It's a very important thing.... if you have to use taxis a lot cus of mobility problems such as with older people and disabled, some of the journeys may go beyond what a single swipe of the card can pay for which means they then have to have the cash. It's a bit like, say, your Oyster card running out after a certain point. Being able to double swipe means that longer journeys are covered. The Haringey Forum for Older people have been quite vociferous about this and other transport issues.

But if they double swipe does that take off 2 journies from the 52 per year or only one?

As far as I know yes. But otherwise the journey isn't covered so double swipe option is something that is needed.

For people who are interested- lots of campaigns to get the double swipe and also to improve options for transport for disabled and older people. There are so many problems with existing arrangements. Dial a Ride for eg., they might turn up hour early or hour later than booked. Age UK at both national and local levels are active on the transport issue so please go to websites in you are interested because you know about someone that this affects. The more voices that join the campaigns to get improved transport for those less mobile than others the better.

Thanks!

If the taxi turned up an hour late and you had booked it for a hospital appointment for example - that you be useless - what a system !

Yep, it's just not working in many cases. It's not joined up- health, well being, transport, care, education....  All taken as separate things it seems. People dont often realise these difficulties till they face them themselves that's why its important we listen to the users of current system and the issues that need addressing.
