Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Aaron Biber's shop was wrecked by the rioting on Tottenham High Road. Some of you may have seen the picture of his barbers shop on the Guardian website. Now a campaign has been launched to Keep Aaron Cutting:

"I will probably have to close because I haven’t got insurance and I can’t afford the repairs,” - Aaron
Aaron has been in the Tottenham area for 41 years and, at 89, is devastated by the damage to his livelihood. To find out more and/or donate click here

£14,307.27 GBP last update 4.00 pm.  Blimey.

He can also claim under the Riot Act for the damage, as long as he meets the time limit ie within 14 days.

I'm trying to dig out some great photos of Mr Biber taken a few years ago by a Belgian cousin.

David Cameron's statement today will mean the time limit is extended to 42 days. So it should mean some compensation for Aaron Biber and other traders.

But just a small note of caution. While we can all admire Mr Biber's courage and determination, there's something not quite right about having separate funds based on the media focusing on individuals.  There are lots more positive stories. And may more people whose property and businesses have been badly damaged.

I know what you mean Alan, but there is something particularly striking about this story as Mr Biber is as much part of Tottenham High Road's Story as the Co-op building but to pick up your point about others, people can donate to the Mayor's Tottenham Assistance fund. Details at No 3 of this pageof how to do that
Do we have an idea how much has been donated to the Mayor's fund so far?
