If you've got original sash windows now, the best choice to preserve the value of your property -- and those around it--it to choose an option that keeps your original windows intact, or mimics them as closely as possible. In other words, you'll want to avoid UPVC. It's bad for your property and bad for the environment.

Completely agree. If you still have wooden sashes it's much cheaper to get them repaired and you can fit relatively inexpensive secondary glazing inside the house to conserve energy and reduce noise. Not only does it look better, it's much more environmentally friendly and increases the value of the property
