Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just seen the banner and my opinion is that its pretty damn crap.

Why?

You still see much of the shoddy paintwork on the bridge.

The banner is all wrinkled.

The overall design is so crap.

I could go on but I'll give everyone else chance instead.

Oh well.

The trouble with being pedantic is that there's always someone more pedantic than you.

It should have been - " I think it's ...."      :-)

I hate to be a banner, but let's ban any further bannering for at least a fortnight.

I grew up with dog's dinner as the expression- canine breakfast sounds posh but hey ho. I misspelt device as well.

Overall most people in this discussion seem to agree that the banner and its add-ons are an eyesore and an insult to the local community.

A lot of spleen has been vented and local council folk have taken note but muddled notes.

I prefer the regular past participle "spelled" to distinguish the wheat from the chaff. :)

Ruth shall we split the difference and call it a dog's lunch? A Big Dog's Lunch.

(it might be thought rude to call it a dog's mess)

Sorry to butt in. Surely at this time of the day a dogs brunch is more appropriate?

Where I come from there is no lunch nor brunch- it's your dinner or your tea! I am sticking with my dog's dinner of a banner...

Let's hope its days are numbered.

Dog's tea it is then. lol

Both Breakfast (181,000 hits) and Dinner (77,600) are signficantly more popular than dog's brunch (56). But the key point here is not the time of day of the eating, but rather the degree of thought, selection and preparation of the food.

In an effort to accommodate the widest range of opinion and to build a consensus, can I put forward a possible unifying slogan? A Mutt's Meal  has the advantage of Humour and Alliteration.

It could have been even less of a feline feast: as well as "Building a Better Community", we could have had "My Harringay" or "Better Harringay" but then that sort of language would be infantile. Wouldn't it?

" Building a Better Community " recognises the efforts of Coral, Ladbrokes, Betfair, etc in engaging with the public ?
I see their Bridging a Banner Community has already been improved upon. Someone has daubed 'FLEM FLEM FLEM' on its northern face and a single 'FLEM' over GOYKUZU on its southern side. Apart from its being an illiterate dummy's spelling of phlegm, I can't shed any further light on this upgrading. Building a Better Community through canvassing an inanimate bridge may indeed be no more than Great Expectorations, so perhaps we should maintain a phlegmatic disposition towards it all. OTOH, the hideously yellow FLEM daubing suggests the aesthetic hand of HANE in a less phlegmatic reaction to the Paul Simon presence.

MY Haringey would use the banner fund for: "Banning a Betting Community"

"Welcome to Green Lanes Gambling Strip" might be more accurate. (NB. I do not hold the local council responsible for betting shop proliferation and clustering. That was the consequence of the Gambling Act 2005).
