Letter from LIb Dem MP Lynne Featherstone to constituent Robin Beste:
Dear Mr Beste,
I just wanted to drop you a line to give you some great news! I have written before about the inaccessible W7 bus stop on Muswell Hill for the only bus that goes directly to Hornsey Central Health Centre. Together with your local councillors I have been fighting for about three years now for the bus stop to be moved from down the steep hill to somewhere that is accessible for less mobile residents.
The Council and TfL have now finally seen sense! They will soon carry out a safety assessment and then move the bus stop to outside Boots on the Broadway, as we suggested. The move will be on a trial basis, but if it works, fingers crossed it will be permanent.

Many thanks for sending me news of your success in getting the W7 bus stop on Muswell Hill moved to a more accessible location. Congratulations. This will be welcome compensation indeed for the thousands of your constituents who will be losing their housing benefit, or having their disability allowance cut, or who are deterred from going to college because of the £9000 a year fees, or whose pensions are under attack by the government, or who find it increasingly difficult to make ends meet because of the hike in VAT, or who fear the consequences of the privatisation of the national health service, or who will see their provision for special needs decimated.
At least you will be able to say in your manifesto for the next election, that you kept your promise to get a W7 bus stop moved. Unlike all the other promises that got you and your fellow Liberal MPs elected under false pretences in 2010.
It won’t unfortunately prevent you from being unceremoniously thrown out of office. But you can live in hope that some preferment will be granted to you for your contribution as a government minister to the destruction of our public services — such as a seat in the House of Lords. The title Baroness Featherstone of the W7 Bus Stop would be richly deserved.

Yes, I agree that Robin Beste is indeed a miserable git. The problem with so many of those who flaunt their 'anti-war/anti-cuts coalition' credentials (and Beste is one of the best examples) is that their virulent view of the rest of the world's more mundane business becomes skewed and slanted beyond repair.
As someone who has struggled painfully dozens of time, with and without crutches, with that sloping W7/144 bus stop at the top of Muswell Hill, I'd be grateful to Lynn Featherstone or any other MP or Councillor who'd lend their weight to knocking some sense into Council and/or TFL.
Declaration: one who voted Lib Dem locally and nationally in the hope of forcing a Coalition - just not the one we got, but certainly not for a coalition of Robin Bestial think-alikes either.
