I picked up some Twitter stirrings last night of something having happened around the passageway by Sydney Road. Having asked a few questiopsn of local Tweeters, I'm very sad to report that there appears to have been a serious sexual assault in the Passage between Sydney Road and Turnpike Lane during the early hours of Sunday morning. I'm told that the police are appealing to anyone who might have seen/heard anything to contact them.
Sad, sad news.

This is true; I left my flat on Sunday morning to crime scene tape and a grumpy WPC standing guard. After only getting scant details from the Police Officer I came home later to a written appeal for information. It seems that at 2.30am on Saturday a female was approached by two men, one of whom went on to commit a serious sexual assault. People in the area did eventually respond to the woman's screams and go to her aid at which point the men fled. No description of the men has been issued.
Sounds pre-meditated as opposed to 'opportunistic' to me as more than one attacker was involved. I'm afraid I'd rather it had been a mugging not that any crime on my doorstep is welcome.
Goes without saying that people should not use the passage when it is dark and late. Haringey Independent don't seem to have picked it up yet.
Yes but rather sadly for me it sits there waiting for the more nervous posters on HoL to have a pop at it. Sometimes justified but mostly not. I'm slightly aghast at the location as it's basically right outside someone's front door. Sydney to Turnpike Lane is densely populated. Something fishy about this (besides the something horrible and awful).
Dear Hornsey Journal...
The Harringay/Haringey Passage (apparently you can take your pick) is not a quarter of a mile long, it's three quarters of a mile long. Any other scoops we can provide for you?
