Local resident mounts campaign to stop football coaches in Finsbury Park

Local resident Martin Ridley has recently set up a campaign to control the 'dangerous speeds' of coaches driving within Finsbury Park.

"The Police are not enforcing the speed limits", said Martin "and when a couple of my friends complained they said talk to Arsenal club. They decided to hold a demo blocking the road in the park, and after being threatened with arrest because the Police said they were making fools of them, the Police finally started to slow the coaches."
Martin fears that it will take the death of a child or a pet before a stop is put to the practice of allowing coaches to drive in the park.

"The public expect to be able to take children to play or walk pets in safety. There must be somewhere we can be free from the danger of traffic."

Martin has started a facebook group to campaign to stop this and invites you to join.

I had no idea, have never seen a coach in Finsbury Park. Presume they use the Endymion Road entrance, and park near the lake?
They use that entrance, drive past the lake and park on the part of the road that is behind the barrier that usually stops traffic going down towards the tennis courts.  They were there in force last night.  I'm guessing the impact for a weekday evening game is less than a weekend match, because the coaches are more likely to arrive at around the same time, rather than throughout the day (for people making a day of it).  Last night, they had all the streetlights on in that section of the park and there were port-a-loos for the supporters and plenty of security staff, mainly around the Endymion Road gate.  For my purposes, this suited - I was at a British Military Fitness class that started after the game did and finished before the game ended, so I didn't see a single supporter and all the coaches were parked up (so not speeding), but benefited from the lights being on and the security staff being around (given the recent spate of muggings in the park - I think there are other threads on that on here).
Any comment BTP?
Whilst I don't condone speeding especially in a park, where are they going to park? I am sure there would be uproar should they park in the small streets around the stadium. They are there once every ten days from August to April for three hours? The world gets dafter by the minute.

Did Arsenal not do a traffic impact assessment when it had planning permission granted on Emirates? Was Finsbury Park accepted as a car park in this assessment?

I was in Finsbury 2 weeks ago and saw it starting to fill up with coaches from Leeds- this is the first time I have seen it to be honest. How long has the park been used as a car park?

I am slightly in two minds about how I feel about this- I guess, as long as it is properly regulated (speed etc) and the coaches/ arsenal make good any damage and *pay*an appropriate amount for the privilege of parking (as we do if we take our cars up there) I guess it is one way we can make sure a contribution to on-going running costs is made in these times of cuts.

They have been using FP for years even when they were at Highbury, I understand there's been a 30% increase in capacity since moving. It also makes common sense in a public control sense.

Yes, I can see some sense in it. I was a little startled when I saw the Leeds mob rocking in at 9am- they must have been making a day of being in the big(ger) smoke
