Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

From The Trees of St Ann's project

Local lime

Welcome to the Trees of St Ann's project, funded by the Forestry Commission Community Grant Scheme.

The objectives of the project include:

* Increased understanding and information about the trees at St Ann's, including labelling
* Harvesting, tasting and cooking the fruits
* Social events which encourage the hospital community and the local community to forge new links
* Extra care of the trees
* Researching the history of the site and the planting of the trees

The project was launched on 12 October with a guided walk by local botanist David Bevan, attended by 60+ people including many of you. There will be another public guided walk on 19 January to which you are warmly invited.

Meanwhile, if you are interested in finding out more about the project please get in touch. Our email is: info@treesofstanns.org.uk
Mobile number: 07973 733239.

The 'tree team' includes current and former mental health service users, and we particularly want to encourage others to be involved. We are hoping to create a display about the project at St Ann's.

We will be holding informal meetings once a fortnight and we very much welcome your ideas and input, large or small. Please email if you think may be interested in being part of this project info@treesofstanns.org.uk

We look forward to hearing from you!

Dear Liz,

Can you give further details of the Public Guided Walk on 19 January 2011(the meeting time and the meeting place).

Thank you,

Stephen Whittle
This is such a good idea as there are loads of fruit trees in the grounds of St. Ann's.
Does anyone know what they are going to do with the gathered up fruit?
On the walk, Gemma, one of the leaders mentioned brewing it up because it makes a good alcoholic drink known to the Romans as cerevisia but I'm not sure. You can email questions (and suggestions) to the team info@treesofstanns.org.uk

Stephen, I will post details of the walk as soon as I get it but you can also mail direct to info@treesofstanns.org.uk to ask them.
That really is extraordinary. How lovely. Thanks for letting me know about sonething that is happening where I work. All I get to hear about from work is more computer based forms we have to fill in!
I'm so thrilled about this. I've admired the most magnificent mulberry tree in the grounds of St Ann's many times and have felt so sad that nobody was picking the fruits. I'll definitely be along for the walk in January.
Hi Liz - this sounds great. Can you cross-post this to Project Dirt? www.projectdirt.com - happy to discuss why/how - mob number (from 5th Nov) is: 07966 939 679
Yes happy to do that.
