Does anyone know why there was such a heavy police presence at the Wightman road end of Fairfax Rd today?

Well there was a heavy police presence at the end of Lausanne Rd on Friday because there was a funeral in St John's and the church had allegedly asked the police to be there as traffic wardens. How calmly they took the gentle ribbing I gave them for being glorified traffic wardens (and not very good ones at that) reinforced my belief that it was some big Greek Don who died and they were worried about trouble. Honestly, the traffic is worse every Sunday and there's not even a parking attendant around.

That's not a very helpful answer, I know... but they do show up in numbers around here quite often (contrary to popular belief).
There was something in the last LCSP minutes for the week of 11-17th Oct:
"Enforcement of 7.5 ton (except for access) weight limits will begin this month and be officially launched in the Week of Action. CCTV car to be used for prosecutions. All Ladder roads to be targeted, especially Wightman Rd. "

Not sure if it is linked to this...
When I passed by at lunchtime they were questioning a lorry driver.
Wow! That is big news. If someone can get a good photo of them talking to a driver I can send it to Wood Green Timber and a few others.
Recently scaffolding companies have been buying the 7.5t trucks but the still make an absolute racket when they go over speedhumps and there are still quite a few out there that are the big old ones. Bless those truck manufacturers for rorting the system with their 7490kgs vehicles.
Scaffolding lorry S435BKN with >7.5 weight signage travelled the length of Wightman today at 1515 without stopping to erect or collect scaffolding.

Unfortunately the company name was not visible.
If you check between 6:30am and 8:00am or 4:00pm and 5:00 pm you'll see double figures of scaffolding lorries crossing the bridge and using Wightman.
Jono, any chance of you guys doing a stint from 6:30? I find this is bad too.
I am surprised it was a spot checking activity for drivers ...I have never seen so many police in one spot.
