Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
As a Londoner do you welcome the new focus on the north?
As a Londoner, I'm quite comfortable with our city sharing the limelight with other regions that's currently being occasioned by Burnham. I'm somewhat apprehensive that political expediency will overcook the cake, but I hope that our city's importance will protect us against that. In the meantime, the rebalancing seems appropriate to me.
Am I a lone voice or are Londoners generally more fair-minded that some in the press would have us?

Yes very much so.
The North / South divide benefits no one and only increases pressures on housing and resources in The South.
A more equal distribution of funding will hopefully lead to a better quality of living for all.

I'm unaware of any change in balance. Beyond the Northern No.10 pr exercise, what are we to be considering? The National Economic Council? The further devolution of powers to the regions? More fiscal independence for regions (quite negative for many areas unless the current 'subsidy' model is retained)?
I don't see much meat and very few bones, and don't think we can frame them as north/south issues.

I've lived in London for 32 years, and I love it here, but I'm originally from the North. I saw what the Thatcher years did to many parts of the North so there definitely needs to be some rebalancing across the country.

As Harringay born and bred who has lived in Yorkshire in the past, I have no problem with any change that rebalances the North.

Definitely a good thing, even for Londoners. Shouldn't just be the North either. An overall rebalancing would be a good thing.

We Londoners have had it relatively good for many years. If you go "up North" there is a significant difference in many towns that are is serious decline and certainly far less well off. In London we have a superb transport system and better NHS services. We do need to acknowledge other regions need attention.

I'm 100% for Levelling Up (for the rest of the country) and 100% against Levelling Down for Londoners.

Exactly! We definitely don't want a repeat of what Labour is trying to do with education by eradicating independent schools - a diabolical levelling down of our nation's future. Level up, not down!

I'm a born and bred Londoner and I'm delighted to see a focus on the North. Let's hope something good comes of it.

When I visit my hometown of Sunderland the differences are stark - from buses serving huge local authority estates than run twice a day to crumbling infrastructure. As others have said I welcome the shift in focus but it has to be backed up with money and devolved power. .
