Cllr Hymas did indeed take the post of councillor and is now Cabinet Member for Housing

ta

Obviously far too busy and important to reply to people who live in the Ward they represent.

Hi D Jones,
I've never met Cllr Hymas.

I do remember how hard it was (several times in my life) to join a complicated organisation. Especially a borough Council - if it is being asked  to go through large political and organisational changes - which I assume the Green Party is introducing.

A different example. I once found myself an (unpaid)  Local Authority Governor of a failing Haringey school.
By chance I came across an article by a former friend of mine. She made it sound a near impossible task - which would take many long years. My ex-friend was mistaken.
Vital factors why she was wrong included: the head and teachers; my governor colleagues; most parents and children welcomed and supported the turnaround.

None of them began by predicting failure. Nobody involved used words like far too busy
or not important.

I am sure it's pretty easy to set up an auto-reply if you are that overwhelmed with emails

But silence just makes it seems like the person doesn't care.

Hi D.Jones,

My name is Alan which I use. When I work on my computer I'm in a room overlooking the street outside our house.
You may have seen that I posted at least three times that I've answered my phone to hear a female voice saying it's "Emma"; an "Ai assistant", to a voluntary agency that seeks my cash donation.
If you read these posts you're probably bored to irritation by this information.

Of course Emma doesn't get bored. Emma doesn't care.

I do get irritated with the agency that bought the fake "Emma". This is because I'm a human and want, need, and enjoy contact with other humans. I've been lucky all my life to work where I meet people. Even my early job serving ina green grocers.

Is "Emma" anything more than an advanced  and very sophisticated Auto-reply machine?

I will make you a confession. In the many years I was an elected  as a Haringey local councillor I had email and got letters. But had no auto reply on my home landline.  I've never had my own or a Council mobile.
We councillors had a system of speaking in person with residents who came to  what were called "advice surgeries".
Mine were in a room at Marcus Garvey Library in Tottenham. I often shared these with another councillor; most often with former Cllr Bernice Vanier. Who was a very experienced councillor as well as being a nice person. We covered each other's absences. I enjoyed chatting with her as well as meeting residents.

I hope the Green Party will operate some face to face; person to person system like this. Sometimes residents joined the library when they came to see us. Some came with their kids. and I gave them some kid's books from the used/withdrawn/ for sale pile, While we spoke to their parent. They cou;d take them home if they wanted.

But it's still early days, isn't it? I wish the Greens well.
