Goodbyeeeeeee Spoons. Brexit didn't work out the way you wished eh, Tim...?

Ah, shame. To each their own, but I've been impressed whenever I've gone there by the number of punters, the different beers, the atmosphere, and the skill of the staff. Not to mention the prices.

Trying to think of the local pubs that have closed their doors since I moved to the area (2007).

The Goat, the Earl Haig, the Queen's Head, the Devonshire arms, the jolly anglers, couple up past wood green station, the Wetherspoons in Crouch End, the Tottenham Swan, the Nicholas Nickleby(?)...

Nicholas Nickleby is back open.

Ah that's good news. A few new places open too I guess.

Terrible news. I love the Toll Gate.

Another Wetherspoon's I liked, the Skylark in Croydon, closed not long ago as well.

Well, obviously lots of bad points about Wetherspoons, but from what I saw the Tollgate was a sort of community hub for people who might otherwise be rather lonely.

It would be a bit sad also to lose the Alfred Herring in Palmers Green. Not so long ago they commisioned a friend of a friend to do some pictures of the poet Stevie Smith, who used to live around there.

That is a good point. Some of the sneering commentators here might not realise that regular working class people also like to have a drink but can't or won't spend £5 on a pint. My dad used to drink there occassionally. He used to have mates of all different backgrounds and nationalities. I expect many of them will be stuck at home being lonely of an evening if the Gate closes.

The Old Ale Emporium just down on Green Lanes still sells pints for under a fiver. Lots of interesting  and diverse customers in there with many stories to tell over a cheap pint.

Mostly under four quid, and very friendly in there too. Beaconsfield is similarly priced but it wouldn't be my first choice.
