Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Can the Lib Dems and Greens candidates and current councillors please outline thier position prior to the election.

The decision by Momentum to have the Labour administration rename the road is wrong for the following reasons:

- it will cost hundreds of thousands of pounds which will come from the budgets for other council services (eg.Education, aged care, environment)

- it is opposed by residents and businesses on Black Boy lane who will bear the brunt of years of adminstrative problems

- it is unnecessarily devisive as the name has no racial connotations and trivialises real efforts to improve harmony elsewhere

- the La Rose family and foundation oppose the change

A commitment to reverse the decision will influence the voting intentions of a large proportion of St St Ann's ward residents.

Sorry to be dim, John, but can you explain please.

“Tom Hymas” in the URL, “Tammy Hymas” in the byline; one and the same.

Thank you, yes

or rather #nothankyou

So caught up in this stupid venture that the Council has missed a trick and allowed local and famous textile designer, Althea Mc Nish's house, at 142 West Green Road, to be gobbled up by developers who want to make it into an HMO It has already been "desecrated" with ugly UPVC windows, despite the being in a conservation area.

And...just what are they planning to do with this modestly attractive building - see attached pix? "Wipe it clean" off the street? Note the interesting shield inscribed with the words "Black Boy Buildings"....so "offensive" they did it twice.

Oh boy (sic)! This is such a shambles!

JJ B - that is really, really interesting. That must be worth a blue plaque - if it is not there already?

You may have created the perfect idea for the replacement street name, however. McNish Lane  -who could argue with that?

A (La) Rose by any other name smells just the same if not better! Innit?

This piece of Virtue Signalling was championed by Momentum’s choice of Council Leader Joseph Ejiofor.  I am just not convinced that Momentum had no part in this.  Now ousted by his rivals Joe seems intent on leaving a legacy even though many local people actually living there seem not so keen.  I notice that even some Labour Councillors have spoken openly against the idea - (Clr Culverwell for example).  Of course this will cost lots of money - street name changes always do.

You appear to be well-informed, Simon.

Will the Lib Dems cancel the renaming decision if elected (or promise to try to get a remaining Labour rump council to do so)?

It would mean hundred of thousands of pounds could be retained in Council budgets and spent on things that are actually needed.

What is the Lib Dem agenda on other local issues?

Who are the Lib Dem candidates for St Anns?

Hi Simon - will the Lib Dems stand up for residents and reverse the decision to rename Black Boy Lane?

Simon — £180,000+ (Council estimate); see above.

Looking out of bus window saw the new Black Boy Lane road name (at West Green Road end) has already been removed
