Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Virtual Resident Blue Badge Permit replacing Companion badge views needed

From August a new Resident blue badge permit is replacing the current companion badge. The rules are different to that of the current companion badge. The new virtual permit only applies in the CPZ zone and the vehicle must be registered to the blue badge holder. This means outside of the zone you would need your blue badge displayed unlike the companion badge which applies to all of haringey. Also if the vehicle is say a relative even if at same address for disabled persons use, you would not be able to have it. if you park in a disabled bay outside of CPZ you still need to display the blue badge. Haringey say this is to stop the theft of blue badge. I believe this is wrong and a downgrade to the companion badge. This will cause more thefts of blue badges and more confusion. I have contacted Cllr Seema and she would like other disabled people’s views. Haringey have not consulted properly with disabled people and this will cause more distress.  Let’s stop this before it starts. Please comment and message me if you disagree so I can pass to Cllr Seema or message her directly.

Thank you for bringing this to everyone’s attention.

I have already emailed Cllr Seema and Catherine West MP and both have relied saying that they will look into it.
lt makes absolutely no sense and as you say ‘it’s a downgrade’ on the existing Companion Badge and will lead to more Blue Badges being stolen which was why the C.B was introduced in the first place.

I had a look at the rules in Islington and Hackney and they are both the same as in Haringey (companion badges are only valid in the home CPZ). Has there been some kind of national change in the scheme?
