Hello! I am thinking of using the green grant scheme to do add insulation to our loft/cellar floors. I have checked the installers recommended by the government, but none of the companies suggested seem to have reviews and some just seem to have been newly created for the purpose of the grant scheme. I was wondering if anyone is going through this and if they have any companies they feel they could recommend? Thanks!

I'd be interested in some suggestions for this as well
My understanding of the Green Grant scheme, derived from reading what is online on the official page(s), and also from reading the Martin Lewis MoneySavingExpert website (usually a very reliable guide), is that to get funding from the scheme, you have to use one of the government's recommended suppliers. I am ready to be corrected if I have this wrong. It makes getting quotes etc very difficult, as for the primary thing that I need doing - properly insulating the (large) main loft, and insulating the walls of the two bedrooms built up into the main roof - the government's recommended suppliers list has only two companies listed within 50 miles. Whereas I know there are dozens of companies, large and small, who could do the work, within 10 or 20 miles of our area (Harringay, near the junction of Green Lanes and St Ann's Road). I have also seen warnings that recommended companies may inflate their price for doing the work under the Green Grand scheme, knowing that the customer will get 2/3 of the cost as a grant from the government. Thus it might even end up cheaper to get the work done without the government grant.
This is a list for the government recommended suppliers, the page that you get if you ask about loft insulation in the area of N15: https://www.simpleenergyadvice.org.uk/installer-search/Q2
I reached this conclusion too about government-approved installers. The arrangement reminds me of the Warmfront scheme of about 15 years ago. We qualified and had new central heating put in. It didn't cost us anything but it was the cheapest system for the maximum available government grant, which went straight to the company. We had to replace it a few years later. The highgate society has a webinar upcoming on the green grant scheme - oct 12. I'll listen in but I've pretty much decided to ask our usual builder to do the work and not bother with the scheme.
Thanks for the info, I half suspected that might be the case. A bit like British Gas fitting a boiler and offering a discount, still way overpriced. I bought one Online for just under £900, and had it fitted, still going strong 11 years later, and at least a third of the price British Gas were aiming to charge
Yes, it is a money spinner for those vested interest companies and shafts a whole set of smaller local providers. Its as if the Tory Governement just want the publicity but don't really want to us achieve real results.
For example they could have reduced or temporarily removed the 20% VAT !!!!! on double glazed wooden sash and other energy saving measures just as they have removed the purchase tax on house sales. The latter only benefits house owners/buyers but neglects those who rent.
