Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Seen them in recent Weeks

Understood they was run separate to Council

But understood offer not taken up

So who runs them. And what are their duties

I have seen them walk past people putting out waste before Stores Close

People parking on Footway, cars and mopeds

Hot Days Mobile Ice cream Sellers

People Lottering outside shops , like drug dealers

Seen they have handcuffs on action belt. Do they have authority to arrest anyone ?

i’ve often wondered what kind of authority these street rangers have, and that link doesn’t provide any answers.

They have the same authority as you and I Ed but as they work in coordination with the Police can call them in as needed.  I think they are funded by the retailers in Wood Green

yeah, i guessed as much. strange they should have handcuffs, though

When they first started

Believe there was several teams of Two

These days I have only seen one team of three

But still interested as to what they are Contracted to be doing ?

I'm surprised you need to ask Bob.

Whatever they are doing in terms of security, they are much needed and appreciated.

I'm very grateful they are there helping to keep us safe and helping to keep crime down in the hectic Wood Green high road. They also give out a strong visual message to the public.

I've spoken to them several times and I'm impressed with their politeness and intelligence.

As stated I have often seen them walk past issues

Reason I ask.

Plus only seen the one team, how many is there supposed to be

I have seen them in and Around Morrisons Security Office

Never seen them when it gets dark, even though they wear reflective jackets. Seem to have lost original caps

Who pays for them ? Rate payers or Shops ?

Shops.

Their office has just moved to a shop in the Wood Green library building.

It's a very worrying development when our civil police are so underfunded that they are no longer seen on our streets. Although the police are insufficiently monitored as it is, the prospect of private police taking their place is retrograde step.

I have seen more Police in Wood Green High Road Area than Street Rangers

And most have been more Active

Plus there are many more Vans cruising Around the Area

So they're a private police force paid for by local businesses - to protect businesses, not the public.

That’s about the size of it Paul

We need to bring in London-wide street wardens that have the legal authority to catch and fine people for all sorts of things like littering, illegal parking, ASB... but also keeping an eye out to be able to report planning breaches in neighbourhoods, etc...all the things that MPS doesn't have the time to do because otherwise occupied.

It is stupefying that in certain meighbourhoods businesses and even some residnets pay for private security to cover limited geographical areas. Tells us everything that we need to know.

We reduce taxes at great expense to the common good only to have to spend the same money elsewhere for private interests.
