Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Art of the Gestetner: new exhibition opening at Bruce Castle Museum at the end of September

The art group Alt Går Bra present a new exhibition exploring the political and social history of the world-famous Gestetner duplicating machine, made in Tottenham.

Featuring over 100 artefacts from Haringey Archive and Bruce Castle Museum, alongside those uncovered from Gestetner users from around Haringey and beyond, the exhibition explores the Gestetner machine as a device that revolutionised the office. It also reveals how the machines were put to alternative use, enabling a wave of political activists, artists and writers to produce printed publications quickly, affordably and with relative ease.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 29th September 2018 – end of January 2019.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England, Haringey Council and Norwegian Embassy in London.

Bruce Castle Museum is open Wednesday to Sunday, 1 - 5pm

The artists: Alt Går Bra is an art and research group exploring the intersections between art and politics through exhibitions and publications.

This takes me back to late nights typing up stencils and cranking out leaflets in my living room and somehow managing to get ink everywhere including the carpet!
