Walking out of the house yesterday morning I heard the faint sounds of a moggie in distress. It was intermittent and got louder and louder until I realised that it was coming from a car driving up the street. Every time the driver changed gear (or what ever you do going up a hill) the car let out a very authentic and very amplified cat yowl. This is obviously something you add to your car (like those very loud exhaust roars you get on Green Lanes). Anyone have any idea why any car owner would do this and that it’s supposed to signify? Ta.

possibly even a Ford Cougar
Isn’t it possible just to have the sound inside the car? That way the driver can enjoy it and those who don’t want to listen can have that option? For instance I have a very powerful hi-fi system but don’t turn it up loud so as not to annoy my neighbours. If I do fancy something raucous I put headphones on.
yes, but then how will we know how cool you are?...
I'm about as cool as my Neil Diamond record collection POTUS
sub zero
Yes, just read the sad news about Neil. I’m sure he drives a very modest electric car. BTW after thinking about it, the man who wrote “I'm a Believer” has to be pretty damn cool (especially as recorded by Robert Wyatt)
I just googled a bit to try and find the product they would have been using and drew a blank which makes me think/hope it may one of the technical reasons given elsewhere in this thread
funnily enough i heard something like what you are describing this morning
it sounded like a cat but there was something unreal about it
either way i really hope you're wrong - there's enough street noise without people starting to do that as well
