Thanks Alison. I assumed you meant him. And thank you for your kind words, support and bending his ear. Bend any ears you can!
  • Liz

I'm actually not very green fingered but quite enthusiastic.
  • Hugh

Hey Alison, thanks for starting a new group. I'll feature it on the main page and put in a latest activity update about it. Let me know if I can help at all - though if you're mates with Liz she pretty much knows the ropes now - as you probably already know.

Hi Alison, Yes I do get foxes (one pictured). I used to have a problem with small plants getting damaged by foxes but it seems better now - squirrels still get the bulbs though...
  • Liz

I've sent a friend request. We talk so much and you live in the next street!
  • matt

    Hi Alison,

Good idea to set up this group. I'm not good with plant names but very much into the greener side of things for the ladder area.

For your info I'm chair of Friends of Falkland/Fairfax Open Space. If you or anyone else would like to be added to the email list for the Friends group drop me a msg with an email address. We hold one or two events a year and the space is due for a re-vamp over the next few years.

    See our website at; http://theladderopenspace.wordpress.com/

Also if anyone wants to give away excess plants to North Harringay Primary at any point let me know!

    Thanks. :)
  • Liz

Hey, the gardening group is going great, eh? I'm a total beginner so I haven't a clue what most plants are called. Everyone else seems like an expert!!!
  • matt

OK. Send me an email here; schoolhouse1892@hotmail.com
and then I'll add your email address to the Open Space list. :)
  • Liz

Too right. Nothing good on telly so everyone gets on here to have a moan/laugh/both!
  • Hugh

Yeah, I thought was a neat idea, but it's become something of an opus interrupted - keep meaning to return to it...................of course there's nothing stopping other folk................
  • Hugh

Of course you're most welcome to paste a link to the gardening page - if you haven't done that, copy the blog's url (the address http: address) onto your clipboard, go to where you want to post it, start a new discussion as usual, and type away. When you get to the point you want the link, type the text you want to apeear, highlight it, click the link symbol at the top of your active editing box. That'll open a new window. Paste the url from your clipborad and click ok - a whole load of html rubbish will appear in your editing window - ignore it and complete your posting in the normal way.

Oh, I know you two! Very cute. :-)

    Fancy going to this?
Harringay Community's inaugural drinks: Tuesday March 4th @ The Salisbury :) posted by matt today.
  • Hugh

On the brownish strip across the top of your forum box, you should see an edit button. Click that, hen you'll see an option for how many discussions to show. Selct & click save.
  • Liz

    Excellent, see you there.
  • Anette

I've had a phone conversation with a man at the coucil, and I'll follow up with him next week if I've not heard anything - I'll fill you in when I see you - there are no emails to forward, unfortunately.
I'm down to two cats now - poor Mia was really ill. It was horrible, but better now. That's the downside to pets I guess.. Yep, see you on the 4th!

    Hi Alison,
Got a favourite line from a song or poem?
Fancy telling us about it at
    Books
  • Hugh

You. It'll mean less time. Dragged reluctantly back into work, but I've managed to get agreement for just 3.5 days per week. So still time for other stuff.
  • Liz

Hi Alison, did you see that Paul the Living Streets guy posted some interesting stuff about The Passage in 'Fines...'
forum and in the 'Mugging...' post. I've asked him to the drinks on Tuesday. They have all the connections etc to get things done about the Passage, it would be useful to have them on board. Hope you're still coming!

Hi Great to finally meet. Think we should get a Seymour/ Warham ladies night going in the Garden Ladder one night. What do you think?
  • Liz

That would be a great idea. How are fixed next week?
  • Liz

Hi, just found out that A's nursery is closed Thursday and Friday next week for parent interviews so she'll be with me. If the weather's nice, we could wander up to Matt's bit of green space in Fairfax.
  • Hugh

Than kyo. About time I tidied up that rubbishy little bit.
  • Martha

Alison, apologies for delay - good to meet you too! Unfortunately, I am on the same side of the road as you - so don't experience the lovely sunny south facing garden, just the giant slugs/snails! Good letter btw, interested to see what the reply will be.

    Hi Alison

I walk around with my eyes closed half the time. It's great at SH pool, hoping to take Jessie our youngest there next term. Have you been going long?

Who needs a sauna when you can sit by the side of the pool for half an hour.

    Thanks Alison,
Do you know, I think I may have been fortunate on both fronts! Just been out for an inspection and the camelia is still flourishing while the little green critters seem to have disappeared. Here's hoping...
  • empyrean_aisles

Oh dear, sorry to hear about the kohlrabi ...

Our roasted carrot thing worked well (no credit to us, full credit to the Moro cookbook). Basically you chop 750g organic carrots roughly, coat them lightly in oil & salt & pepper, roast them, then when cool whizz in a food processor, add some crushed carraway seeds and then to serve top with crumbled ricotta and chopped mint. Serve with little wedges of pita that have been brushed in melted butter & cooked in the oven for 15 minutes so they turn into pitta chips. (Now I type it out, I realise how much fat there is in the recipe ... put enough oil & butter with anything & it'll taste good ...!)

    Alison,
Just saw your comment. Thanks! I am a novice gardener ( this is my very 1st own garden) but i am absolutely loving it! Getting seriously addicted to the garden centre in alexandra palace..very costly..also trying to find someone who successfully ( or not) put a green roof on a shed or extension. Do you know anyone?
Looking forward to reading the gardenning posts, Sophie.
P.S: it is remarquably calm now at the top of lausanne road ( it is also school holidays..), but there has been a real change and hopefully everybody is still happy!
  • sophie hautefeuille

Have gathered a bit of info myself but the difficulty is doing it yourself as the companies offering that service charge a lot still. Might be experimenting soon on our extension though.. will post some photos if it ressembles anything...

Have added a link to the new guerilla gardening thread at the end of my blog post now

Hi Alison - we should find out when the knitters go to the Salisbury and go for moral support!
  • Rachel Fisher

hi there - no worries - I can show you how to do basic circular, it's just the splitting off that I'm having issues with... but I'm seeing my Mom this weekend, so should be able to have a masterclass!
  • Cat

And a very belated thanks for the welcome - have only just seen your post.
  • AnnieH

Hi Alison - I took your advice re doing a cycle training class to build my confidence on the roads. I've meeting Rob (Cycle Training) for a 1-2-1 lesson tomorrow daytime in Finsbury Park. Really looking forward to it. Will let you know if it works and gets me out on the road or scares me back onto the tube! ;-)
  • AnnieH

Thanks for forewarning me Alison. Will let you know how I get on!
  • AnnieH

Hi Alison, the cycle training lesson went really well yesterday. Rob was great (v.patient!) and gave me a lot of tips to help get me more confident on the bike.

We practiced in Finsbury park. Having another lesson next week so we can go on the roads together. Bit scary, but I'm sure I"ll be fine. Watch this space! ;-)
  • AnnieH

Hi Alison, great to see you, John and Fred today. I just wanted to to thank you for your support and for coming by our stall. It was a good day (if not a little on the cold side!) and it was great to be able to support the theatre. It must've been magnificent in it's heyday. Would be great to have it as a usable space again. It definitely seemed to have Fred's stamp of approval!
Hope to see you again on Tues night x
  • Hugh

Yup, it's just photoshoppped. Do you have any photo-editing sotware?
  • AnnieH

    Yup, see you tonight!
  • Liz

  • Liz

He's so easily pleased, creating Xmas avatars for everyone! Sent you a message re tomorrow
  • AnnieH

Thanks for your message Alison. It sounds like you've been caught by a nasty bug. I've been up and about, but mainly held up by Day and Night nurse! I'm feeling a bit more human today. Hope you are to and 100% fit and well again for Christmas. Hope you, John and Fred all have a lovely time. Hope to see you in the NY!
  • Hugh

Thanks Alison - look forward to seeing the photos! Happy New year to you and yours.
  • Hugh

Alison, it's listed in events. You can link to that.
  • Liz

Hi still trying to get my head round it all to be honest. What did happen last night? What will happen next?
You can change your email via the settings top right hand corner. I should drop Hugh a note to let him know though to ensure you get the update sent to the right address.
