All the Kenyan, Nigerian, Somali and many of the Turkish population of Haringey know where I live so there is no real identity problem. Anyone can knock on my door but I may not always answer it.
Hi Hugh, I was in Tescos earlier, looked for your poster but couldnt see it. Did they say they would put one up?
Couldnt help but notice the comment from Shelley below, if you need another set of eyes to dicipher the census handwriting I can try and help, as you know I used to do it for a living..
Thanks for popping by with the cards, I've given a few out tonight. The Salisbury has more than one notice board so I'll put another poster up next time. Ta
Thanks for the welcome Hugh. I found this site through one of my boyfriend's contacts on Flickr (Mrs E?). We've lived in the area for nearly two years and we're really interested in getting involved in the community a bit more. Looking forward to the Ladder Festival and Rise on Sunday :-)
Annie
Hi Hugh, Thanks for the welcome message. Have been meaning to join for a while. I'm Secretary of the Wightman Road Residents Association. I wanted to discuss possibly setting up a Friends of Wightman Road forum with a link to the association's email address. One of members Eddie Finnegan has discussing the poor state of the road on HarringayOnline for some time and noted the wider interest from those who use it regularly but aren't residents. It would great to hear your thoughts. Deepa
Thanks. Have been meaning to join for a while. The sites looking really good. Enjoyed Ladder festival yesterday, as always, and it gave me the opportunity to teach badge-making! It was hot in that tent...
is it the computer i'm using on green lanes or is somthing going wierd with website? All the drop down menus are dropped down whether I want them or not?
I'm now on my fourth computer and its still doing it. I was previoulsy in the process of sending an invitation to an outside email address to my new love to dance group. Would that cause it to go like that? Not sure if email got sent or not.
Seems ok now thanks Hugh. Is it possible to get the new 'love to dance' group picture on the front page for a few days? Perhaps all the groups could rotate every now and then? Its out of site out of mind for some of us. :)
Thanks for puting love dance on front page. When creating an event, how do you send invitations to current members on the site? Doesn't seem to be an option for it. Thanks Ruth
Thanks Hugh! I'm particularly interested in the environment and sustainable living in Harringay and joined to find out about resources and groups in the area - looks very useful indeed.
Ben S has been pestering me for yonks to come on here. I had 2 see what all the fuss is about. I've actually lived here as a student in all about four different locations in the ladder (one with rats - ah the good old days!)
Anyway thanks again and congrats on the site getting nominated for the award. Fully deserved:)
Hello Hugh,
Thanks for inviting me to comment on the website and how it can be improved.
I think the website is good because it informs the residents about what is going on around them, it affords them to contribute to the debate of issues that affect evryone and promotes friendship.
As reagrds to what can be done to improve i cannot hink of anything now but as soon as something comes, you will ear from me. Pending that time, I pray God's blesing on you and the work you do.

Hello Hugh,
Thanks for your welcoming message. What a wonderful site - thanks for getting it all started. It's good to find there's people with a real passion for the area and who want to improve things here.
I discovered the site by chance - I was googling for info on the old greyhound stadium as I've often wished I'd been here to enjoy it, those good old days! I've been a few times to Walthamstow which has been fun so hope you have a good time if you're going tonight.
Between negotiating the dog mess and litter and counting doorbells on the HMOs (I never knew there were so many) I've enjoyed seeing the old pictures of the area and hearing what people are up to now. I think Harringay online is going to be very addictive.
Thanks for your msg. It was good to meet everyone at the Salisbury. there is a lot of energy and I really appreciate how much work all of you have put into the project. I look forward to getting more involved.
Thanks for the laugh the link to the Conservative candidate and It is so nice to know the high esteem in which the tories hold the residents of the Ladder.
Nothing happens. I click on join this group and normally I would automatically be added to the list of members and there would be a RuthE has joined the photography club in the recent activity on front page but neither of these are happening. I'll try again. Maybe it was the computer I was using yesterday. I went over to Virgin media on friday, appears that my home computer is so ancient that it cant take it so now have to rely on fasttech..
Thanks Hugh. I'm taking a trip down memory lane. I used to live in Harringay in the late 50's/early 60's and am hoping to discover more about the history.
Thanks
Chris
It was reading Wikipedia that brought me here. I'll get in touch with StephenH. Seeing the pics of the trolley buses confirmed that I did indeed travel on them.

Hi Hugh, yes, that is me. Thank you for this lovely community. I was always seeking for something like that since I have moved here. (6 weeks).
Wish we had been given site months ago. We all live in Hampden Lane and are alarmed about the number of illeagal conversions going on and very poor build quality. We live next to one and its been a nightmare for almost a year. That photo is the board on the front of the house. We all figured to have a laugh at Paul Simons expence, -one of the most offensive estate agents ive ever come across. I will phone the council once more tomorow to ask it be removed, then all a group me and my neighbors will remove it. They are an eyesore and illeagal.
Thanks for posting a link to my photos Hugh. I'm really keen to improve my photography and this really helps with the old motivation. Cheers Mr Flouch :-)
Thanks for the welcome. I have a love/hate relationship with Harringay I have to admit. I live on Seymour & frequent the Salisbury often & at times leg it to the Garden Ladder. I've had a great chilhood in Harringey admittedly and remember when there was a set of pedestrian lights outside Maqsoods meaning Salisbury Road had give way signs and also remember when Iceland was a Woolies......Going back a bit eh?
Thanks for the messages - can't seem to reply using the HoL email thingy. Anyway, have been away and my mailbox just gets jammed with so much junk, not helped by me having bounced on an email from work that had about ten powerpoint attachments! Dur. Thanks for letting me know.
Hugh,
Many thanks for acknowledging my registration. Don't forget, I'm 86 next birthday, so am only mildly computer literate! I was pleased to see that you have used my piece from the Francis Frith Memories site which had, in its turn, triggered a few responses.
Yours,

Hugh,
Yes, I've found the photos and I revel in them. And in one of the 1928 videos (of Wood Green shops, I think), there is surely my mother walking briskly and wearing her 1920s cloche hat!
Where one spends the first 10 years of one's life makes an indelible impression, and Harringay did that for me. When you have time (and not before) perhaps you could advise me the best, and most diplomatic way, to use your site to enquire whether any member is living in, or very near, to 257 Wightman Road. That's where I lived from 1924 to 1933, and I can still see the gas mantles, and the coal fire, in our living room!
Yours,
Arthur Astrop

Well done (again) Hugh,
I've objected!
I wish I had had the chance, or the where-withall to object to the noisy MOH next to me.
