No, not at all. Your comments were very helpful - thanks for posting them.

Flat purchase is going very stressfully ... is there any other way?! Legal hiccups (on the other side) means that it looks like taking at least another few months which is very frustrating as I really need to move before October. Le sigh.

    Hugh,

You dream not! I work in planning (Camden, not Haringey) and I'm setting up exactly what you describe. In a few weeks you'll be able to go onto our website, register what you are interested in (area, types of application or any other variable) and then get an alert everytime an application comes in that matches your criteria. Haringey could do the same (the technology is not that complex - it's the will and the money that tend to be the issue!)

    Regards

    Michael

Thanks for the welcome Hugh. As a Hornsey Valer this site works fine. Such a good idea and thank goodness I caught your piece in The Advertiser. Well done.

No problem about the heat loss map thing - your commentary on it was more extensive than mine anyway! Thanks for putting so much time and energy into developing this site.

Thanks for the flickr comment! The area around Cape Town is absolutely beautiful.
I'll have to have a go at some 'Harringay' tagged ones ...

BTW - do you have any thoughts on posting via the 'blog' section or the 'forum' section? They both seem to amount to the same thing - somebody kicks off with a paragraph or two and hopefully generates a thread of comments? If there isn't anything to choose, it might simplify to promote one type in preference to the other?

    Hugh,

    Thanks for your note.
I have to confess i am not yet a resident of harringay but trying hard to be! Am in the process of buying on the ladder so fingerscrossed will move there shortly!
One thing that attracted me to harringay was that i felt there is a sense of community. The website confirms it and i am very excited to be soon part of it.
Hope you'll hear from me soon!
    Sophie.

Thanks..and let's hope we're not buying the same property!
Congratulations on your website, i check it almost everyday!

The area has been a no conversion zone for many years, unfortunately the council fail to actively enforce it. Knowing this, landlords go ahead without seeking planning permission, and many houses have been converted, often to low standards to cram as many people in as possible and which causes all sorts of problems. 4 applications for 'certificates of lawfulness' for such conversions have recently been submitted to planning - which the council has to grant if the landlord can show that it has been in existence for 4 years without complaint even though they would not have approved an application at the time. The LCSP has been active in recent years in reporting new conversions it becomes aware of, but it is an uphill struggle to get action. If you see any suspicious building work near you, report it or you could have problems in the future! Let us know also so we can press for action.

    Re: avatar

Glad you like the goat avatar Hugh. Some might wish to argue that it's a close resemblance but alas it's not!

Photo taken at Freightliners City Farm, which is based near Hollaway Rd. Great place to visit.

FFFOS (Friends of Falkland Fairfax Open Space), a real mouthful!

A Working Group meeting last Monday with councillors, council officers and members of the community met with an environment charity called Groundwork. They presented their assessment of the positives & negatives of the current layout and condition of the open space. They then put forward ideas for improvement. These will go out for consultation with the wider community probably November to feed back by March 08. Some very good ideas put forward. Will keep you all posted!

    Hi Hugh,
Something isn't quite working as the first one is not in my Sent folder either!
I was just commenting how great some of the historical photos were and I was wondering how you came across them? I have a few local books and had a look at Bruce Castle but the North Middlesex Photographic Society is a new one!
Also, the annotated one that features the Barratts Factory - where is that? I thought it might be what is now referred to as the Chocolate Factory but the features don't seem to be in the right place?
    Hoping this message get through!

    Hello Hugh
Thank you for the welcome. Now I think of it, it would be nice if any of the others are parents of children at South Harringay Infants or Juniors, to let them know that the PSA needs more members, especially the juniors. I suppose contacting me, unless there are PSA members on this site already would be the easiest way of joining. Also, it is early notice, but the schools are organising a Summer Festival on 21st June. I have not really got my head around how I can let people know things on this site yet, could you help please?

    Richard
  • Richard

Thanks, Hugh I am glad I asked you first. The event is miles off, and when I checked the members, there are 3 members of the PSA on this group already, so I am sure they will post a reminder.
