Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Quite by chance, I met up with Angela Baker (with whom some of you may have learned some willow weaving) in the cafe in Downhills Park. Angela was sitting at a table, stitching, and waiting for people to join her for this week's Cafe Connect.

I sat down with her and we talked a bit about the aim of the project that takes place every Tuesday 9-1 in the cafe. Aimed at over 50s, but very welcoming to anyone who wants to sit down and chat with their neighbours, the Cafe Connect project focuses on Downhills Park as the centre of a community, using its resources and people's memories of it for creative activities. Planned sessions, between 3rd June and 15th July, include history discussions and scrapbooking, tree walks, poetry writing and sketching, culminating in a party 'Cooking to Connect' -sharing food and recipes drawn from the local communities that use the park.

For more info, email Angela xblutopia@btinternet.com or pop along next Tuesday 3rd June for the "Downhills Park - Our History" Victorian Parks session. Angela is there from 9am but she says activities start in earnest about 10.30.
