Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Many thanks to John Hinshelwood of the Hornsey Historical Society, who yesterday enlightened about 50 of us on the history of the Grand Parade, beginning with the Beaconsfield on a walk that lasted an hour and took us as far north as the Salisbury, before returning down the western side with a detour for the school. One of the lessons I learnt was, look up!

Clive, here are another 50 reasons to look up.
They're great shots Hugh. These details are always missed as a motorist, along with much else, and normally missed as a pedestrian.

As the guided group numbered about 50 people, possibly more than expected, there were difficulties in moving and staying close to the speaker while staying on the pavement on a normal running roadway (also crossing the road). Maybe a future walk can be combined with a road-closure day so there is less of this kind of restriction.

Next month, John (Hinshelwood) is doing another guided tour of neighbouring Stroud Green. HHS

I agree, this was an excellent walk and well attended. This part of the Borough is usually left out of the historical walk circuit. Tottenham and the Highgate, Muswell Hill area get covered regularly but not the middle covering Harringay and St Ann's. Should get it added to London Open House walks?
