Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Twenty people turned up on Friday 14th October to witness both Haringey’s MPs, Catherine West and David Lammy, signing up to the environment pledge.

The pledge, backed by a range of green groups including Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, WWF and the RSPB, states:

" I believe that following the EU referendum, the UK government, working with administrations in Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh, must build a healthy and prosperous future for all.

This means a thriving natural world on land and at sea, clean air and water, communities connected to nature, and a sustainable economy.

For the wellbeing of my constituents, for people at home and abroad, and for future generations who will depend on a flourishing and secure planet, I will do everything in my power to:

Establish the UK as a world leader on the environment by committing to match or exceed current environmental, wildlife and habitat protections.

Ensure the UK leads on climate change by publishing robust low carbon investment plans and ratifying the Paris Agreement this year.Create a countryside richer in nature by supporting farmers and landowners to deliver environmental benefits alongside a thriving farming sector.”

Catherine said she was dismayed at the latest report from the government’s Climate Change Committee showing that the UK is falling behind its existing targets to cut CO2 emissions, let alone the tougher targets needed to meet our Paris Climate Treaty commitments, and she promised to quiz the minister on the issue and keep up the pressure.

It means fewer humans. And they call themselves Socialists...

Spurios terms like 'World leaders or Best in the World" make the whole thing sound like Monopoly.

This isn't a game, it's/it was a serious business and "co-operation" is a by-word for what should actually be happening.

A Brexit vote was in actual fact, a notice of the ending of that co-operation.

This is shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. Just a lot more hot air that won't help the environment at all.

Pleased to see this commitment from our MPs :) and I hope to see real action - local action as well - to meet these targets.

Taking the simple example of solar power installed base, London is the worst region in the UK (despite being relatively sunny!), and the UK as a whole is worse than the EU average.

Hopefully environmental protections will be applied here as well - this will mean protecting local parks and wildlife habitats. There are plenty in Haringey which can be seen here: http://magic.defra.gov.uk/MagicMap.aspx

I hope that MP Lammy will put his actions were his lovely words are by objecting to the out of place and very evironmentally unfriendly and damaging proposed Tottenham Hale deve....

Let's see!

The Future of Energy ... Here's a TV programme (Bavarian TV in English) recorded in England..

Recorded & broadcast just before the Referendum..   (Co-operation) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXQ2MQSectU&list=PLnQD8S3ip13yT...

The whole series is interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7K4MOqk65F0&index=4&list=PL...
