Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

COFFEE & COMPUTERS mission is to help (mostly, but not exclusively, older) people become less isolated via basic computer skills. By offering these vital tools, we help to foster human contact & enrich lives.

Our sessions, which are free and open to all, start with a group chat about what issues participants are facing with IT. This could include wanting to gain confidence with Facebook or finding out how to surf the web or discovering how to use internet banking. Participants, working with the technology that they most use - tablet, laptop, smartphone etc -  are then matched with a volunteer who will work with them in the session for an hour or so helping them improve their skills in a relaxed setting, which includes free refreshments. Currently, every month, we run 6 sessions in 5 Haringey locations and we are planning on opening in other locations in the not-too-distant future.

At this time, we are particularly looking for help with our Wood Green & Turnpike Lane group, which meets fortnightly, 11.00 - 12.30 at The Shine Centre, 91 Turnpike Lane, N8 0DY

Coffee & Computers participates in the Time Credits scheme whereby volunteers enjoy benefits (i.e. free entry to museums, cinema tickets, free or reduced price courses etc.)  offered by a variety of local enterprises

If you have patience and basic home computer skills, we cordially invite you to get involved with this rewarding and exciting project.

To volunteer, or for more information, contact Eric via email info@coffeecomputers.org or call 07842 082 034

I'm interested in volunteering. Which day every fortnight does this happen? Thanks.

HI! Thanks for your response. Our next session at The Shine Centre is this coming Thursday, 15th Sept. If you could make it then that would be grand. (On the first occasion please come at 10.45 for a short briefing.) Please let me know. Kind regards. Eric

Hi. Currently all our sessions take place during weekday mornings:

Shine Centre: fortnightly on Thursday

Crouch End/Hornsey Library: 3rd Wednesday of every month

Highgate/Jacksons Lane Community Centre: last Friday

Highgate/Highgate Society: first Friday

(There are also sessions at Highgate School, where the students are the volunteers, during term times)

Regards

Eric

He'd be most welcome!

I did my first volunteer stint at the Shine Centre a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. You honestly don't have to be an IT whizz (I'm not).
