The Earl of Seven Sisters
Some of you might remember my mishap in early June when I was punched, knocked out and kicked on my face while unconscious on the ground just outside the Sainsbury's Local in Seven Sisters.
Well, eventually the whole thing came to an end. A very disappointing one.
A man was arrested and interviewed and he was released on bail whilst the ID procedures were being done.
Having only seen his face for a handful of seconds before being knocked out I obviously failed to ID him at the parade (I'm actually pretty sure he wasn't one of them), and so probably did the witnesses.
Therefore, due to lack of evidence, no further action will be taken against him by the MetPolice.
A full plate number and 3 witnesses is apparently not enough for them and I totally lost my trust in them.
You people be wary, he's still roaming the streets....

But how much effort really went into gathering evidence? There was solid evidence that it was the male driver of a distinctive car. If it wasn't the owner/keeper/regular driver then who was it? To say they had strong leads would be an understatement.
There is loads of evidence that eye-witness testimony - recognising strangers faces particularly is unreliable - it seems surprising to me that the police should much store by it.

I'm not trying to diminish the seriousness of the assault or the impact of it but I also know that unless the police know for sure who was driving the car at the time of the offence, the CPS won't authorise a charge against the individual, regardless of who owns the car.
With regards to the identification process, if you only see a person for a few seconds, especially in the middle of a violent assault, it's fairly understandable if you can't pick them out. The ID procedure isn't particularly useful if it's a guessing game.

They knew perfectly well who the aggressor is, it's the process that is f'ed up.

It's a bit unfair to blame the Police for the fact that you were unable to identify the perpetrator. Had you correctly identified him, then the wheels would be set in motion to refer to the CPS and ultimately prosecute.

As I've said, what a great wheeze to get off. Just find a minion who owes you a favour (you're an Earl after all) and get him to say that he had the car that day. He looks nothing like you so stands a one in nine chance of being randomly picked out. Fine odds for a minion.
When a local councillor says to the police something similar to what the Earl of Seven Sisters said to you they move heaven and earth to get the case in front of a judge.
