I got this e-mail today from the Ladder Community Safety Partnership - i assume they won't mind my sharing the info:
"We’ve been informed that a group of locksmiths are operating on the hoof in the Ladder area, and then charging/demanding up to £500 for a straightforward lock change.
Please obtain a proper itemised estimate before agreeing to any work, and if possible make use of one of our reputable local traders (N. London Locksmiths on Grand Parade obviously springs to mind in this context!). While some door to door traders are genuine and may offer a good service, there are many who are just after a quick buck, or worse still, want to gain access to your home for criminal purposes – these typically, but not only, target the elderly and vulnerable. Be cautious about their claims (are they really 'working for a neighbour/just down the road') , and never let anyone in without being very sure of their credentials.
Most burglaries in the area are opportunistic, relying on doors or windows being left open or inadequately secured. Our Harringay SNT (Safer Neighbourhoods Team) police officers are more than happy to provide free advice about any aspect of your home security you may be concerned about, to minimise your chance of being targeted.

likewise Rob - what's the problem?
Seriously, if you think this should come down then tell me why
I think it's the LCSP who are recommending the locksmiths, not the SNT.
