I'm usually quite good at reading planning application but I can't work out what the proposed development is. The gas holders at Kings Cross were dismantled, stored and are being reconstructed back on the original site. Is it too much to ask for a similarly sensitive approach to London's disappearing industrial heritage?

I think they're beautiful, particularly when the evening sun reflects off them and turns them golden. But I'm of a certain age...There have been gas holders converted for other kinds of use, including residential - couldn't we do that?

National Grid and the Contractors invited some local residents, along with the Hornsey Historical Society, for a visit to the Gas Holders today. They'll be demolished between April and November. Here's a few pics of Gasholder 1 and 3.

Fabulous photos Eugene. Wish I had been around to take some more shots up close before they are demolished.

Very sad that they can't be saved in the way others have been in London. I expect planning granted by Haringey Council without any foresight as to what could be achieved and just redevelopment at any cost.
