I have a 40 year old Singer electric sewing machine which recently started belching out smoke and a smell of burning plastic. Never a good thing ;)
I thought that due to its age and an obvious electrical fault I wouldn't be able to get it repaired but Tony on Fortess Road was not fazed by either issue. He repaired and serviced it for £90 and said it should last another 40 years now! He does sell new machines but there was no hard sell for me to trade up to a newer model. I strongly recommend him: Tony's Sewing Centre at 154 Fortesss Road London NW5 2HP. 020 7485 1653.

Good to hear that on both counts - someone still mending things, and you for being able to keep using the machine!
I have two Frister and Rossman machines which both still work but are a bit creaky from lapse of use. I used a small portable Cub model, and my Mum had one with metal body and wooden base, very heavy. I've been keeping them for sentimental reasons, but I have bought a new Janome machine and might be open to offers of a good home for the F&R's, knowing that they could be serviced locally.
