Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As a little tribute to the Haringey of old, here are some vintage pictures of Haringey/Tottenham/Spurs skins and assorted bootboys.

Disclaimer: although the political views of every single individual in these pictures are not known to me, these are no Nazi/white power types in 'skinhead' costumes.

What, the buttocks?

Thanks for the tip Liz.. :-)

Fantastic!

I've still got my copy of Suedehead which a friend gave to me (I wasn't old enough to read it when it was first published)

Great link, lead me onto this  - Jook - missing link between The Who and The Jam.  must admit I've never heard of them http://zani.co.uk/zani-music/item/26-jook-the-missing-link-between-...

When I started secondary school in 1970 this look was huge. The Northern version included a tightly rolled umbrella to compete the Droog look. I don't think amphetaimes ever quite made it to Sunderland. The local skins used to take a particularly horrible brand of decongestant pill that, allegedly, contained traces of amphetamine sulphate, crushed up and poured into a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale. Think it was called a Nukie Broon Bomb. When Oxford bags replaced skinny jeans a strip of tartan material sewn down the outside seam of each trouser leg was the apex of fashion.
Thabk you great photos
Great Article....Should you guys wants to do a kind of any celebration or just a reunion, I will bring my records and I ll be pleased to play and listen your stories..

Another photo I have from 1969.. Not taken in Harringay, but in Camberwell. Michael, Wolfgang, Peter & Terry.

Wolfgang was murdered in 1978 and his body was found in the Thames.

Peter too, was murdered in a Homophobic attack, after leaving the Manor House pub in July 1977. He was followed by two twenty year olds and beaten to death in the lock up garage area on Green Lanes.

I've no idea how long his murderers spent in prison or if they are back living in the area. http://www.blackkalendar.nl/content.php?key=4942

Michael has remained my best friend for some forty-seven years now.

Stephen: The guy called Michael on your photo looks familiar. Is he same person as the one on the right below? Note that I'm a present day revivalist/youngster (in relative terms) and don't know any of these people personally.

Sorry to hear about Wolfgang and Peter's fate.

Yes, he was my partner from 1969 until 1983. And Peter on the left was a good friend of mine. These photos were all taken by Tony Burls and were, I think,  part of a set for a magazine called 'The New Londoner', as well as for another magazine, the name of which I've forgotten.

The pic you posted is great, I've never seen it before. Are these Camberwell lads, then, or were they from different places?

Bloody hell Stephen, that is horrific (re your friends being murdered)
