Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A few months ago a house on our road was rented out and rapidly went downhill with noisy comings and going at night, the appearance of the house has deteriorated with huge amounts of overflowing rubbish and a hedge gone berserk [ a minor point]. A number of my neighbours reported that they had learnt that the house was being used as a brothel [borne out by the contents of burst rubbish bags - yuck]. The house was 'visited ' by the police but nothing more seems to have happened.

The situation has got worse with cars pulling up in the early hours and groups of men going in - even to the point where we were woken up by someone ringing our doorbell at 3 in the morning and 3 men saying "we pay for girls" and not leaving until i threatened to call the police. I reported it to the police [ called 101] but I suspect it was just added to 'information received'. The house now has a broken door and 2 broken windows after an incident in the early hours a couple of days ago.

The men who hang around the place are not open to polite enquiries and are quite intimidating. This, with the general seediness of the whole operation [ not to mention the likely abuse / exploitation of the women involved] leaves many of us on the road feeling both angry and powerless at the situation.

Suggestions on a postcard? Seriously any ideas whom to approach?

David

Hi David

Could you email me about this on Emine.ibrahim@haringey.gov.uk and I will do my best to find out what action is being taken. Things like this can also be signs of trafficking etc and I would like to make enquirers

Suggest calling 999 next time.

Hi Ledal 999 is for emergencies best to call 101

Violence, intimidation, disturbance and the possibility of trafficked women being abused is not an emergency?

The police are aware of this house & are dealing with this, as would be expected.

I've recently noticed behaviour I believe is related to sex trade on Pemberton road bridge. A woman or women from a nearby house getting in and out of parked vans that seem to pull up often for about 20 minutes at a time. I've also seen a different lady plying her trade in a burgundy dressing gown in the same spot a couple of months ago.
I think a bit of caution might wise. We had a brothel that operated at the end of my street several years ago. It was eventually the subject of a major police operation where it was found that several of the women there were virtually prisoners. The police had been carrying covert surveillance for months so the could get the evidence they needed to arrest and prosecute the traffickers as well as get the women out of the terrible situation they were in. It might be well to speak to the Safer Neighbourhood Team just in case similar operations going on at this premises.

Direct action? this is not the deep south in 1950's !! I wouldn't urge a bit of caution I would urge a lot, in fact will outright say that it would be extremely ill advised to stand outside with placards.

I have been assured by the police that the matter is in hand PC Glynn Kelly has been keeping me regularly updated.

Is that in relation to the house on David Thomas' street, or the one on Pemberton ?

This is regarding the house on Umfreville Rd, David Thomas emailed me directly after I provided my email address with the details. I suggest that if people are aware of a specific address on Pemberton please email me on Emine.ibrahim@haringey.gov.uk or call 111 too. Please don't post the actual address on here as its sensitive.
