The Pontypridd store closed the same day - there, one customer cut up her store card at the tills, since M&S hadn't been as loyal to customers as she had been to them.
M&S say Enfield is the nearest store now - it isn't, Holloway Road is more than a mile nearer (and even nearer for Harringay residents). I hope their choice isn't a straw in the wind for the next time stores' viability is reviewed.
M&S Holloway Rd will close early 2019, according to the BBC. Not surprised - when Wood Green closed it said 'nearest store Enfield' when it wasn't, Holloway Rd was nearer.
I'm sad to see it go. People say it was no longer fashionable but that's not what I used M&S for. I used it to stock up on standard stuff- underpants, socks, pyjamas, dressing gowns, white shirts, dark blue cardigans. M&S is consistent in its quality and doesn't just cater for skinny "hipsters".
Goodness, and the nearest one is at Enfield, that's quite a hike. Marks & Spencer thriving here in Hong Kong. What's more, their range of food has recently been expanded to include fresh fruit and vegetables. Not a dud amongst them - you can eat every bit - and even the name of the UK grower is printed on the packet. Heaven on earth for homesick Brits. Sorry to be a bit off subject.
M&S base customers are dying out at an alarming rate. I heard that my Hertfordshire Sister's local at Harlow had also been closed.
I personally think they are/were an awful influence on the British public's style. I wouldn't/won't mourn them.
Put it this way.. anything Margaret Thatcher would wear or thought good is certainly not for me.
Seriously though, it's a generational thing. For the 'indigenous' Tottenham & Wood Green populations of earlier decades, they offered good quality at a low price. But things, life has moved on and to wear M&S stuff isn't an aspirational thing anymore.
I personally don't see why anyone would want to pay double for packaged vegetables when just as good are available elsewhere. I have friends, who always purchase M&S washed parsnips at Christmas, because paying more for something is what is done at Christmas - Ludicrous!
Aspirational right. Lazy old gits who lack ambition feel disenfranchised.
