Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi everyone!

My name's Colin, I'm new to harringayonline

I am very interested in writing a historical piece for the local area for my blog.

I have a subject I'm looking to cover, it's about witchcraft / historical paranormal activity and/or haunting stories.

This is just a shout out to ask if anyone has any great or interesting stories of that nature, I'd be incredibly grateful. I'm looking for little known ones so I can do a bit of research on them as practice for my history degree / blog. So if you know of any cracking ones please let me know :)

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards

Colin

Sounds fabulous what's your blog ? I have lived here for 43 years and my mum, dad , mans and granddad all their lives and can't say I have heard anything of witchcraft or hauntings. My dad said there was a hermaphrodite used to walk the streets I think in about the 50s and she used to have people following her shouting things at her. But apart from that I would love to hear anything that comes up. Good luck
Hi Tina, that is rather strange story, it's not quite the thing I was looking for - actually that's quite a sad story!! But many thanks for letting me know about it . Kindest regards Colin

I think there is some story about Highgate cemetery but it has been pretty thoroughly covered.

Hi, yes a lot has already been written so it's way off what I'm looking for, many thanks John!

Try Hornsey Historical Society for info. There is well documented story about a Coal Poltergeist in Hornsey.

Hi Lesley, brilliant thanks very much, I shall give them a go. I went up there Saturday morning actually. Kind regards Colin
A previous thread from a while back here : http://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/ghosts-in-harringay
Many thanks Liz, I already saw that thread, but thank you very much for taking the time :-) Colin
Hi Colin
It is a very sad story it upset my dad that people were being unkind. I will ask him of he knows of anything else maybe round the factories on Eade road he used to work in them will let you know if he knows of any ghostly gossip thanks Tina
Hi Tina, thanks very much that would be very nice of you to ask your dad for a ghostly story!! kindest regards Colin
Dad doesn't know of anything but now I have remembered about a so called haunted house on Wightman road I think it was the 80s the house is on the corner by a little alleyway when I go past next I will find the number for you to see if you can find anything on it

Have you checked on history Northumberland House. It was a "lunatic asylum" from the 1830's and was demolished in the 1950's for The Woodberry Down Estate. It was situated across Green Lanes from where Soft ball is played now, (north end). A few troubled souls must linger there still, but I never heard of anything.
