Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Are there any members of HOL who have joined the 'Friends of Finsbury Park'? How proactive are they in making park improvements?

The park is pretty much my second home; I love it since its transformation over the last couple of years but I am so fed up of all the dog mess everywhere, despite all he new bins. I'm sure there must be certain (a minority i'm sure) dog owners continually letting their dogs foul in the park, especially along the path near the canal from endymion road. Has anyone been involved in any action about this? Can anything be done?

There have also been lots of problems with large dogs off leads round the cafe, which I think is really dangerous with the number of small children & vulnerable adults around. I have complained and I think there has been an improvement over the last few weeks so if anyone else has the same concerns, please let the park wardens know and hopefully the situation will continue to improve.

I emailed the appropriate department at the council but no response bar an automatic reply

There are a couple of members of FoFP on HOL. Anne Barwick is the main poster on HOL of news and events relating to the group. I'm sure she will respond to this discussion when she sees it.
Thank you for your responses. Yes I would like a membership form and info if available, about FOFP role, activities etc. I really have no issue with many of the the dog owners, the majority of whom are very responsible and friendly but I do think that some need to show more consideration around cafe area and obey the dogs on leads sign on the cafe terrace. I have seen an old man get knocked over by a large dog near the cafe, a small dog attacked by a greyhound type dog, again near the cafe - the owner of which continues to go to the park and not keep her dog on a lead near the cafe, dogs entering the cafe because they are not on leads and on a number of occasions there have been 4 or more large dogs almost blocking the entrace, again not on leads. It is mainly small children I worry about but there are also many other vulnerable adults using the cafe area. I and many other parents of two year olds etc have felt unsafe at times. All that is needed is for the Park wardens etc to encourage people to adhere to park rules. Is that their role or is it the Parks Police? Its great that someone is handing out the info you describe and that the bags are available, I guess its just getting people to use them and put them in the bins that is the problem - there are often bags of poo along the path to endymion road. Maybe info should be displayed in cafe too?

Many thanks.
Thank you for the form; I would certainly like to get more involved so will complete the form. Really good news that the Park is to receive extra funding to improve the cafe area. Once i've joined I will hopefully be able to come along to one of your meetings. I have a toddler and baby so don't want to commit to too much yet or make false promises, but I do have some fundraising & community work experience and genuinely would like to be more involved so hopefully I can make some form of contribution to your groups' work. Thank you Juliette
