Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I know this is being discussed in another current thread, but can we have a dedicated thread for the new fish and chip shop opening on Green Lanes near Harringay Green Lanes station? Yes, we can. Not least because it looks quite big and interesting, eg, restaurant and takeaway.

Pav I am stealing your photo from today. Hope you don't mind.

Toffs in Muswell Hill - not worth the trip (IMHO)

George's - OK (ditto)

Priory Fish Bar - OK (ditto)

New one that might be called Hashtag Fish and Chips - fish fingers crossed that it's excellent.

I really am quite excited.

Past that you gotta work for it - look through all the histpry stuff. It's all there.

Gilbert and George have had at least one write up Hugh.
Gilbert and George is wood greens pipe smoke material, no celebrity stealing because yours aren't quite good enough. You'll be snatching Arthur C Clark from Horsey next.
Much older story than that one FPR. Way back, G&B produced a work called City Beach which is a based on a photo they took of Ducket Road. It's in their compete works books, volume 2 I think.
Fair enough.

You should set up and a really over priced cafe and paint their faces on the side,
it works a treat. :)

The chippy by the tube you mentioned sort of tried that - well they had a photo of local Mylene Klass on the wall for many years

Perhaps they are trying to capture the spirit of Sarfend.

Don't forget Mike Leigh and Alison Steadman. Mike Leigh lived in Woodside Road, opposite Wood Green police station for over 30 years!

Had dinner at #Hashtag on Thursday 18th June.

Verdict:

- Great to have a fish & chip restaurant (with sit down) in Harringay

- My fish (Haddock) was superb

- Chips were disappointing

- It's bad etiquette to whip away someone's empty plate while their companion is still eating

- Thumping background music in an a place where acoustics are already loud was irritating

- Change for bill came back £1 short

- Is it overpriced?

Good luck to them while hoping for improvements.

I went there for lunch today and will give it a 5/10. One of the big negatives for me is that I don't think there is any sustainable fish on the menu. The quality fish we had was fine but the batter was average whilst the chips were really bland. The beer menu was uninspiring to say the least. Service was great. Music was way too loud and really naff and ruined the atmosphere. I also felt it was a bit over priced. The decor was pretty cool although I prefer my chippy to feel a bit more cosy. Nevertheless, it's nice to have a chippy at the end of the street and hopefully they'll improve over time. I'll be back.
Come to Wood Green, near the station, we have shiny metal counters, and the chips are ... as cheap as chiips.
Such a shame about the loud music - not really my cup of tea when I'm eating.
