Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I know this is being discussed in another current thread, but can we have a dedicated thread for the new fish and chip shop opening on Green Lanes near Harringay Green Lanes station? Yes, we can. Not least because it looks quite big and interesting, eg, restaurant and takeaway.

Pav I am stealing your photo from today. Hope you don't mind.

Toffs in Muswell Hill - not worth the trip (IMHO)

George's - OK (ditto)

Priory Fish Bar - OK (ditto)

New one that might be called Hashtag Fish and Chips - fish fingers crossed that it's excellent.

I really am quite excited.

sorry Gordon don't know either but am always looking for a good Chinese, too   I enjoy Turkish of course in that area   you sound like someone who eats out often   it is my favourite occupation   I'm a lousy cook even though I do try   if you cook at home, I recommend the Saqi publication Turkish Cookery with top British and Turkish contributors and brilliant illustrations   we did it to raise money for earthquake orphans

I agree. Freshly fried, not cooked beforehand and left to congeal on the rack.

The problem with George's though is that although the chips can be very good, when it's busy you may get chips rushed out of the fryer which are then shiny and pale and undercooked, with no crunchiness to them. Which some people may like but which for me is the opposite of a good chippy chip.

agreed!

Agree. George's has been a childhood favourite, if it's the one on Tottenham lane, near hornsey rail we are talking about. Staff are so nice and food reasonably priced.

Chips at priory has always been tasty too. Crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Can't vouch for the fish though, as never tried it.

New fish and chip shop opening next to monkey nuts and dragon in crouch end. Hope it's good. Speaking of which, dragon chinese is highly recommended. Lovely chinese food.

No one's mentioned Mr Chippy Stroud Green High St? I go there as it does good chips and fish always fresh. B good to have a place in Green Lanes though.

Went past it on the way to work this morning, and I must admit it does look great inside. Just hope it matches the standards of the Chippy close to my workplace.

Silly name for a Chip-Shop, however #excitedaboutheprosepctofdecentfishnchipsratherthandodgyfriedchicken

will it have satellite dishes above it?

like, really huge ones and then a smattering of small ones to keep them company?

it makes the food seem soooo much more appetising....

I saw the new fish and chip plaice (see what I did there) from the bus yesterday. Anyone know when it will be open?

I've never had decent fish and chips in London ever. Why do most chippys leave the skin on the fish down here? Boak. I don't bother anymore and just wait till I'm back in Scotland and then indulge. Mr Artex Monkey does like a Haggis Supper.

I agree. London fish and chips are always mediocre. I wait till I'm up north or by the sea. Btw I'm hating the name of the chippy and the sign. It's 'orrible.

You just haven't tried the right places. I don't know about the north of England, but I agree that mediocre or bad fisha nd chips are easy to come by down here. However there are some superb fish and chips shops in London - two that spring to mind are Golden Union in Poland Street and Masters down in SE1.

We went to the Fryers Delight in Clerkenwell just about every Friday lunchtime for many years when I worked nearby in Saffron Hill... always superb quality.  The best in the UK. I would happily re-visit the harbour side chippy we went to in Whitby last year!
