Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

River Walk between Wightman Road and Hornsey station cleaned up...almost.

After nearly a two month mission, I was able to get the River Walk between Wightman Road and Hornsey station cleaned up.

I just have to write Thames Water one more time to get them to clean up the path from the Wightman Road entrance to the bridge.

I walked the pathway today and it's a very big improvement.  The underwear hanging from the tree is gone as is the burnt suitcase.

If anyone has a problem with rubbish in the River Walk walkways in the borough, they come under the jurisdiction of Thames Water. The people there were very helpful.

The email address is customer.feedback@thameswater.co.uk

I will try to add some photos when I get a chance.

I had another call (ansaphone message) from the Case Manager at Thames Water. THey are getting quotes on Green Peat (I think it is Green Peat not Green-crete, but it is difficult to tell from the voice message) If it is, this is, I think:

On Monday there was an interested gent with a clip-board making a close inspection of the mud bath area and pacing out its dimensions.

New River path users may be interested to know that work to improve the surface between the Wightman Road entrance and the footbridge has started.  The need to bring material along the bank from the Hamden Road entrance may chew up that surface for while.

I cleaned this up today.

And here is the finished path nicely resurfaced if not actually landscaped.  No more muddy shoes (at least not on the worst section).  Full marks to both Geoff and the New River managers for this much needed improvement.

Unfortunately, there is still the occasional flytipper.  This is a pile of rubbish remaining from work by an electrician.  It would easily have fitted into a wheely bin but here it is - dumped by some unknown ignoramus.

I cleaned this up today.

You are a champ.  Well done.

This is good news! I'll get down there as soon as poss! Thanks for the photos and the updates, Dick. So helpful to see exactly what has been happening.

I've been away. I'm going to look now. I think there are still some issues to be sorted out. I got an email yesterday from Thames Water. Hopefully there will be more improvements.

Well, today was my first chance to see the new path and I have to say it is an incredible improvement! A really solid, wide path that looks as though it is here to stay - only time will tell, of course, but it appears to be properly constructed and fit for purpose.

Here are some snapshots. I hope that they will sow grass seed either side of the new path - I'll get in touch with the helpful Case Manager from Thames Water who phoned again to keep me up to date with progress.
