Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi guys,

Just wanted to share an idea i had in regards to a benefits discussion i watched on the television last night.

In my opinion with exception to disabled people and other people who would not qualify to work any persons claiming benefits because they cannot get a job should do community work in order to be able to collect the benefits at the end of the week?

after all they are looking for work right? theres so many jobs that could be done in the area countless ones.

what are your views?

Here's an idea - as four times more is spent on Housing Benefit than on ESA, lets get private landlords to do a day a week each working in the community.

The benefits discussion is a glaringly obvious smokescreen for much more serious issues such as tax avoidance. The debate is snidey and undermining. Many working people recieve some sort of benefit including HB. Many jobseekers do great voluntary work already to up skills and contribute to the community and to society. I know one friend, a jobseeker who was told he was doing too many voluntary jobs ( these jobs often included training) and that he must spend more time doing job searches.
Maybe John it's because a debate involves people putting forward counter arguments rather than just slagging each other off? By the way, I don't understand quantative easing in the sense of it being a sensible way to manage the economy. It feels a bit too Hogwarts.

A large part of the benefits go to people who are in work but not earning enough to live – especially as accommodation costs rise to vertiginous levels. If the minimum wage was upped to the living wage (and real affordable housing was built), it would be employers who paid those "benefits" and not the tax payer.
