Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I saw a very sad looking boxer type dog scavenging food along wightman and raleigh this morning. She looked pretty skinny and had no collar.

I called the council dog warden's office at the time but they said they dont deal with untethered dogs. They told me to call the RSPCA who i contacted this evening. They said that it is absolutely the job of the council to deal with the dog and not theirs. They will only deal with cases of cruelty or injury involving profuse bleeding or inability to move.

So sadly, the dog is presumably still out there and im not sure what to do next.

Anyone else out there seen her?

The best thing to do is catch the dog and take the dog to a vet to be scanned to see if it is microchipped.

Take a photo of the dog and log it as a found dog on www.doglost.co.uk

It is the responsibility of the council dog warden to take in any stray dogs brought to them. (Haringey Dog Warden 020 8489 1000 (out of hours 0208 489 0000). However, bear in mind that when a dog is taken to a council dog warden, if the dog is not microchipped and not claimed by an owner within seven days, the dog is usually put down.

So if the dog is not microchipped, better to take it to a rescue place, like Dogs Trust www.dogstrust.org.uk or www.alldogsmatter.co.uk

Best not to take a stray cat or dog to the RSPCA as if it is not microchipped, the animal is usually put down.

I don't know the colour of the dog, but have a look in the Pets forum as there are local missing dogs recorded on there.

What colour was the dog and what size?

It was predominantly white with a few darker spots/ patches. I am not confident around dogs at all and don't think I would be up for trying to tether or catch it. I passed by the same spot again today but didn't see her anywhere.
I would say she was knee height maybe and very scrawny.
