A friend visiting is sick. Where/how to find a doctor locally? I saw a walkin centre in Stamford Hill? Maybe that's the place to go ?

Yes, I nearly lost my father for this reason. He was unfortunate enough to develop a brain infection on a bank holiday weekend. We found out afterwards it was one of those 'worse the longer you leave it things' and they left it till the Tuesday to confirm the diagnosis with a scan.
Just don't get ill, basically.
*nod* It's good that this subject is finally being talked about but not sure if a big enough shift is taking place to make it any less of a concern. Really worrying.
You can also go to the Laurels on St Ann's Rd by Chestnuts Park
The Stamford Hill one no longer opens on a weekend presumably after its funding was cut.
Good luck out there...
Last time I checked, it accepted walk ins ONLY on the weekend.
Interesting, I was looking at this page:
http://www.tollgatemedicalcentre.nhs.uk/opening-times.aspx
but there is another one that contradicts it. Worth a phone call then definitely - they were great last time I went and not a very long wait for a walk-in place.
Call NHS 111 and they will do an assessment on the phone and direct you to where you need to go. In fact they encourage everyone to do that before turning up at A&E. My other half became ill on a Sunday and they pre-booked him into the Whittington A&E - it was like the time it took to get there was included in the waiting time as he was triaged and seen by a doctor within an hour even though it was a 4 hour advertised waiting time. I should also point out that he had excellent treatment.
Private GPs won't take you if you aren't already signed up with them. Also, don't go to A&E. Middlesex and Whittington have walk-in / urgent care centres, seperate from A & E. I've used them both when friends & family members have been visiting.
There is a walk in centre on Fore Street Edmonton N9 next to the multi storey car park (near Asda and the gym). Used to open weekends and very good.
