Launched last week, the"human-powered" Green Microgym in Portland, Oregon is one of few fitness centers in the world that runs on power generated by people working out.

As members pedal on stationary bicycles, a small motor connected to the stations charges batteries that power the gym's television and stereo system.

or my ipod fridge as I run on the treadmill to get rid of the after effects of eating the contents of my ipod fridge, listening to the new Glen Campbell album ( no really its a good album). Hurray, I won't be a burden on the world after all...
At the 'Restore the Rec' festival at Broadwater Farm on 13 September, there was a live band playing - their amplifiers were wired up to four stationary bikes. Willing volunteers came and pedalled for a bit to provide the power. Someone said they were installed by a local group calling themselves Fantastic Revolution'. Would be great to know what else they do...

BTW, the children's cycle area in the Rec is brilliant. The football training at Broadwater Farm is excellent too.
