Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have just been called on my home phone by someone purporting to be from EDF to read my meter. He said he was outside my front door.

As the meter was read last week and he had my phone number, I refused to open the door.

I rang EDF and was told that this was NOT procedure and that I would only get a call if they wished to make an appointment.

Cust services have now given me a password which must be given before entry to read the meter.

Seems like a wise idea anyway - just call them up.

My door got screwdriverd last week, be careful out there. People are trying it on. Make sure you always lock the door from the outside and the inside because if you're in the garden or asleep and you don't hear the bell, you could be in for a nasty surprise. This was day time.

Mine was locked so they couldn't get In but screwdriver marks were obvious.

Houdini? How-dini?  Do we come through the keyhole, letterbox, catflap? I really want to know.

Do not just rely on the Yale lock- use the mortice lock too if you have one. The proportion of break ins on the Ladder that can be traced back to folks only using the Yale lock is very high. A good kick of the door and of the Yale pops, and in they go… Better still, get a London bar too, then the only way hey are getting in is if they literally kick the door to splinters, something that may well be noticed!

Go round to the back garden , break in, lock the front door from the inside, then retrace your steps.

Simples.

..or just lock your door when you're in and when your out. :)

Talking of doors/locks etc we just got a new front door from Yale doors - it's a great service - you design it how you want online and they get someone round (the same day in my case) to measure then fit a couple of weeks later.

As you'd expect from a company that makes locks, they are very security conscious (and police approved) but they are also in keeping with the style of doors on the Ladder.

And for what you get (a complete door frame as well as the door if you want, plus fitting etc) they're pretty reasonably priced too.
