Apart from the no doubt enormous cost, there is a community centre immediately opposite in Chestnuts Park.

Doesn't have to be a community centre John. For example the act has been used to retain pubs.

The wooden structure that stores equipment is being removed in the centre of the Park and a site is required for all sorts of council services, why can't the council see the asset for its value to the community but no, someone somewhere has their beady eyes on the site, just like the Post Office sell of fiasco, where Mount Pleasant Depot was sold off for a steal to housing developers making a killing literally or the over a century old Fire Station in Clerkenwell, sold for a steal to some invester mates of the Condems.

It's Tania who wants it to be a community centre.

Sorry John, wasn't following the thread properly.

the chestnuts community centre is already over used and in need of doing up, whats required in the area is Adult & Youth services making information technology accessable an information centre, with a community internet cafe, will continued police station that they can manage it as they have for over 150 years, why haven't they endeavoured to rent part of it, doesn't Boris need somewhere to store the surplus to requirements water cannons?

Isn't there a St Ann's library that does that ?

I'm sorry you had to turn an interesting discussion into an itrrelevant political sneer .

Who do you vote for John D?

It's supposed to be secret. and none of your business. As it happens, I have never voted Conservative ( or SWP  )

The land is a public asset, they have no right to sell it, the Met are given the authority to manage it or is it Harringay Council selling it? who knew eh!, all a manipulation.

Tania.  I may be completely wrong. If I am then I apologise in advance.  But online at least I've  yet to find anything indicating that Haringey Council owns this police station.

I agree it's a handsome building. I also agree that selling off distinctive and attractive publicly-owned buildings should be a matter for debate and consultation.  That's been my working assumption for many years.  (In fact since I read the great Jane Jacobs 40+ years ago.)

So I am dismayed by the Koberite Council's enthusiasm to sell off as many public buildings as possible - especially in Tottenham. (While of course pretending that we still have a Tottenham Town Hall and talking Orwellian Newspeak about creating a "Civic Heart" at Tottenham Green.)

But while I've lots of critical things to say about Haringey Council, I strongly believe in fairness. Which for me includes giving criticism - and praise -  when and where it actually belongs.

The land is a public asset for use as a Police Station for over 150 years, the Met are suppose to manage it.

If it was under ulteralised why not consult the community? instead they just locked the doors and put a phone outside.
