Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Whilst researching local Italian restaurants on the ladder I looked on haringey online to see where local people recommended.

Seemed to only be able to find Durazzo on green lanes, but then I remembered relative newcomer Buonissimo on west green road ( turnpike lane end) so decided to give it a try. So glad we did!

I had the most delicious seafood spaghetti and my husband had a pizza- both authentic and yummy. We shared a starter and desert and had a couple of drinks each and came to £20 a head. Think that's great value and in my opinion was a much nicer environment than Durazzo(which seems more like a take away restaurant-. I'm sure the food is delicious and it's good value but the lighting and decor just don't do it for me. )

Buonissimo have really have made an effort with the place to make it a bit more trendy with exposed brickwork and natural wood and the staff were all Italian and very attentive.

Only thing was it was quiet for a Saturday night... Only two other tables occupied whilst we were there. I would hate for this place to close down because they are off the beaten track and people don't know they are there!

They also do take away which by the looks of it is what keeps the kitchen busy on a Saturday night.

Go down and give it a try - I'm excited that they are within walking distance and am already planning to take some friends along to spread the word. it's an exciting development for west green road, which is pretty grotty up that end and could do with some regeneration.

There's a couple of other Buonissimo threads, so without wanting to stir the pot - I get what Sho said.  Buonissimo looks good, we had a great eat there and our friends did (another time)  - so hopefully it will survive as it's great for the area.  I've also eaten at Durazzo and had good service and nice food.  Make your own mind up - cheers Glen

PS - no connection to either restaurant - just want to highlight both as welcome alternatives to the Turkish fare  (which I also love) - but we need more variety

Well said West green.  i will also be trying out Durazzo ;)

You might want to consider amending the unfair title of your post considering you have never eaten at Durazzo, particularly as this thread comes up second on a google search.

Changed title. I'm exhausted with this.
Just go and try it for yourselves.
I'm off to Durazzo to bury my head in their ample pasta portions....

I'm not surprised Shoho is exhausted with this thread. Why are people so aggressive? They think it's perfectly acceptable to dis both Buonissimo and the poster but any adverse comment about a second Italian place called Durazzo is a complete no-no.

We're all entitled to our opinions. If none of us can praise a place without being asked if we're part of the family owning it we might as well give up expressing opinions at all.

And why shouldn't Shoho say she's (?) Italian without being shouted down. It seems relevant to the discussion. She'll have had more experience of Italian food than non-Italians.

Stick to the point- what we think of Buonissimo, and perhaps also what we think of Durazzo (which I don't know at all).

Thank you for taking the time to write that Ian!
Everyone is so aggressive on this site that quite frankly it's out me off posting, and that's a shame.

I totally agree with you. I'm  reluctant to post an opinion of any kind for fear of being ripped to shreds.

To be fair the unedited thread title was somewhat strange.

I am saddened that what started out as a positive review now has several negative reviews attached to it for all to see. Kind of defeats the purpose. its all left a rather nasty taste in my mouth. I am new to posting a review on HOL and i won't be in a rush to do so again.

Its a shame as all i said was the decor in Durazzo wasn't to my taste. So shoot me. Everyone who hasn't been to Buonissimo should go, and i hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

That's Hol. Light the touch paper and stand by for the fireworks! ;-)

I'm learning ;)

But hang on in there, you may get poetry from OAE and from Alan. :-)
