Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Accordions!!
Having had the racket from the accordion player under the railway bridge wafting into our garden all day as usual, I went out to catch the bus and found another one sitting outside Barlcay's Bank. I've also seen an accordionist outside the Salisbury this week.
I know people have to live, and I'm not against busking (I've done it myself!) but I don't understand how they are allowed to stand and play there all day long. It's not pleasant to have to listen to it non-stop, and I'm sure if they were begging they'd be moved on pronto.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make with this picture by the way, derelict houses can be found anywhere, even here in heavenly Harringay.
The river Lea is part of East London's history and heritage and part of Tottenham. And my picture was taken today as I walked - not screenshot from Google. You are aware I take it of the warzone controversy to which Phil initially referred.

The picture was inspired by the war zone thread, Suffield street off West Green road is definitely a bit of Tottenham that's in the running for a bit of 'warzone', it might be off Google, but it's no different in reality.
Just like your picture is a great counter-example to the warzone comment.
My point is that Haringey has great and grim bits. The good needs praising (happens not nearly enough - I think the place is underrated), but the bad bits need to be called out so that they can improve.
Where exactly did you take the picture btw?

Walking down past the Ferry Lane estate by the Tottenham Hale Bridge.
I agree that bad bits definitely need calling out (still plenty in Harringay never mind Haringey) but words like 'warzone' imply things about the residents that are both insulting and untrue. A lot of people from Tottenham are very cross indeed about the use of such demeaning language.

Most people that live in an actual warzone have no culpability for it being one, so I don't understand the upset. The same goes for the shit bits of Tottenham. It's usually a minority to that spoils it for the rest. Calling it out and pushing back is good.

Not sure I can agree or that that the person who made that comment put as much thought into it as you, Mark. People are more likely to make a mental leap to riots and assume the opposite.
But taking your point and Pam's information, perhaps the people creating the 'warzone' are the very people claiming to have the solutions...hmmmm, that couldn't be right, could it? What possible advantage could they have for doing that?

Those two houses were not derelict till Grainger bought them and bricked them up. They could have housed two families (at least) for the past four years. As they were sold by the council to Grainger for £185k, that left a bit over for running repairs.
BTW Grainger also own the two burnt out houses/shops on the High Rd, next to the market.

Pamish - that's very interesting - how did you find that out? I always wondered why anyone would let a property rot in London, given the house prices and the crap housing some tentants will endure.

It's been known to those in the Wards Corner campaign for years. Not only did they get this bargain purchase from the Council, Grainger were given £1.5million as a sweetener to take on the job.
You can find out the owner of any land/property by using the Land Registry website. Cost £3 last time I used it. You may just get a company with an address in the Seychelles of course.
[Pause to wait for Grainger or their apologists to notice this and come sweeping in accusing us of causing the delay/blight by challenging their nasty soulless scheme.)
