Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

How much money does Haringey/Islington earn, net, per disturbed resident? Just wondered if the disturbance of the peace is worth it? Is my peace worth £5 or £5000 to go into our public services? Made up answers welcome as is the quoting of dodgy statistics or even anecdotal evidence(my personal favourite)

I think there is some kind of logarithmic, or maybe exponential scale which means that the further away from the park you are, if you're still disturbed by it, it counts as more in the pot.  So, if I live, say, 100m away, I might expect to be disturbed (whether I like it or not), so my peace might be worth 5, but if I live 1km away, my expectation of disturbance would be less, so rather than my peace being worth 50, it might be worth 100 (or even 500).  That said, I'm betting that no-one who lives really close to the park expected the council to allow so many concerts there, so it depends when you're measuring the expectation - today or when the person moved in.  Suitably made up?

as far as i can see and up til now there are only 5 events scheduled in finsbury park this summer - two days of arctic monkeys (this weekend) and three days of the wireless festival the first weekend of july.

i'm sure others will be added, but the "summer of doom" that was predicted when the council gave a license for 15 weekends of events doesn't seem to be materialising so far

You'd have to offset against the people who are quite enjoying it

Agreed, there needs to be a formula for that too.

They should have to pay more, the stinking freeloaders! Actually my sis in law lives just opposite the main gate of the Park and she says she didn't hear a thing yesterday. Seems its all directed at Harringay!

I live in NI5 and didn't expect to hear it at all but did and didn't mind it too much. Sang along to the songs I knew. The kids liked it. I reckon I owe extra now on my council tax. Hopefully it will be added next April.

If people don't like living in a vibrant city with art, culture, live music, festivals, street parties, Mela's, Diwalis, etc then there's a whole world beyond the M25 they can move to. (but beware beyond them walls is the badlands of UKIP - 'Winter is coming!')

Long live rock in Harringay...

So, it's OK for one section of the community to drive another section out ?

Sounds like ethnic cleansing.

Long live rock in Harringay indeed. Nobody is driving anybody out John. And your turn of phrase is quite dubious.

I agree. " Ethnic" was wrong - sorry.  " Social " would be better.

John, you know theyve stopped playing dont you? perhaps the noise you are hearing is tinnitus.

Nah, it's the bee in his bonnet.
