Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

While we're waiting for the council to get their act together, I thought we could send a message directly to the cosmos, via Harringay online, with a list of ideas and pipe dreams for the residence of Harringay. Maybe in a years time or so we could look back at the list and see if any of them came true. It worked for Neol Edmunds dint it?

Anyway, here's my wish list:

1) Let the kids reclaim the streets (ban all cars from ladder roads)

2) Bring back the trams.

3) Make it legal for cyclists to cycle wrong way down one way roads (like in Chelsea)

4) Traditional English cafe for Green Lanes that does real food, (no frozen chips, no marjarine, no industrial size baked beans cans) and tea made with English Breakfast tea bags.

5) No litter on the pavements.

6) More trees and plants to put the green back in Green Lanes.

7) All the single people of Harringay to find love.
(send me nice bloke, not a fat one. ta)

8) Send me dishwasher.

9) Close down all the betting offices.

10) Close down Zams and Chicken Spot.

Ruth, you could wish for 7 and 8 to be combined and find a nice bloke who loves washing up!

I wholeheartedly endorse your list (except 8) and would add

11. Split bins to encourage recycling
12. English Heritage to recognise the beauty of Grand Parade and give us a million quid to do it up.
13. Rid ourselves of 'Rachman like' landlords/developers and ensure decent, safe housing both to buy and rent in the whole of Harringay.
14. Have a well attended and powerful off line Harringay residents association to campaign for Harringay issues and who pack out the Area Assembly to push councillors and officials for change.
15. A very rich philanthropist who will give HarringayOnline a few thousand quid to ensure its sustainablity
16. All dog owners clean up after their dogs.
17. The Arena shopping centre knocked down and an arts/entertainment arena built (like what we used to have) with ice skating!
18. A cinema on Green lanes that shows good indy movies and kids films on rainy sat afternoons
19. A community sourced venue to hold history and local art exhibitions, RA meetings, hang out with the neighboursover coffee and pastries
20. Residents given the opportunity to buy keys to the New River gates so we can walk down there sometimes instead of peering through the gates.
I'd like to add:
21. £50 on the spot fines for spitting until everyone knows it's unacceptable. Money can go towards plants and trees on Green Lanes.
22. Security / litter / dog-fouling / noise patrols in the Passage, 24/7 - funded my me when I win the Lottery
23. The 29 to return to being a double decker.
24. A nice Indian restaurant on Green Lanes
25. The 4 year rule leading to illegal conversions getting a certificate of lawfulness to not apply to the Ladder houses. You build illegally, you take it down. End of.
26. £100 on the spot fine for intolerance based on religious, cultural, size (for you Ruth - he he!) colour or social-economic backgrounds.

27. Strictly enforce a "smiley, helpful, bar person" policy at the Salisbury

28. Force dog poo culpruts to walk blindfolded down the passage, bare footed five times.

29. Produce a feasibly study into whether the Haringay / Harringey Snooker club could be transformed into a punk rock / folk rock, venue that serves wholesome veggie food with a wide selection of real ales showing all lower league football from around the world and not the overpaid jerks we see week in week out. Run by me.
I'll vote for trams if we can ban motor vehicles.
Imagine if it was just trams and bikes- that'd be ace
I love all these ideas, especially 17 - 20, 24 & 28 &29 (if it includes dance mania nites)
35. Fish & Chip shop to replace Andreas

36. More cycle lanes

37. Bicycle shop
Great post Ruth.

38. A book shop (maybe the BG could move a mile south?)

39. Beautiful plants crammed into every spare ounce of soil. And and looked after as well, rather than planted and forgotten)

40. Somewhere fun for young people to go. Being an old fogey would not dream of trying to say what that should be - but somewhere fun and safe for people to hang out would be great I'm guessing?
If you're craving Fish and Chips - I've always like George's Fish shop on St Ann's. I haven't been there in a while, but they always had a good selection of crispy fish and delicious chips.
41. Music/dance venue/ball room for young and old

42. On the spot fines for miserable customer service.

43. Iceland ball dozed and flattened to create nice focal point with fountains and benches.

44. (38) Perhaps Big Green book shop could expand and open Little Green Lanes book shop?
45. Close down the drive in McDonalds and replace with leisure centre with decent size adult swimming pool.
46. More police on the beat on Green Lanes to match our apparent average crime statistics.
47. Get those druggies off GL the two that hang around near the cashpoints and ask you for "20p for a cup of tea"
